Principal's Message - Mr Steve Thorne
Newsletter Week 6
National Sorry Day - May 26
Last week, we marked National Sorry Day with a special prayer at our morning assembly. National Sorry Day is a special day that occurs in Australia on 26 May every year. It is a day of remembrance and commemoration held to highlight the impact of past policies of forcible removal on the Stolen Generations, their families, and their communities.
National Sorry Day is of particular significance to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Australia.
The day is an opportunity for all Australians to remember past mistakes and build stronger bridges for a richer, stronger future together.
Kinder 2023 Enrolments
This week, I have completed enrolment interviews for Kinder 2023. While this is a very time consuming task, I find it very uplifting hearing all the positive comments about our school from current parents but also, and possibly more importantly, from new parents to the school who have had St Therese recommended to them. We do have a beautiful community and one that I am always happy to talk to others about. If you know of anyone still contemplating which school to send their child to, please ask them to come and have a chat as we do have some places still available.
Feast of Pentecost - Sunday, 5 June
This Sunday marks what is considered the birth of Christianity. All that Jesus had done and said in the previous 3 years, would have been to no avail had his disciples not had the gift of the Holy Spirit to give them the courage to go out into the world to spread the Good News. This is the challenge issued to all of us through our Baptism and Confirmation, that we too can be true followers of Jesus shown through our words and actions. Our Year 6, who will be preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation next term, will be attending the parish Mass this Friday at 9.30am.
Big Bank Working Bee
Huge thank you to the dad’s who turned up last Saturday with their mowers and whipper snippers. With about 10 dads, we accomplished a huge amount with all of the slope cut and about a third of the flat area. At present, the bank area looks like a half shaun sheep!!
Let’s finish the job …
Do you have a whipper snipper / slasher??
Can you spare an hour on Saturday morning from 8.30am??
When: Saturday, 4 June
Where: Big Bank
Time: 8.30 - 10am
Tools: Whipper snipper / slasher / rake
Athletics Carnival
Thank you to Mr Bernardi and Mr Timpano for organising the Athletics Carnival. While the day started very well and full of promise, it quickly changed with the rain settling in much earlier than predicted. We were able to get through all the events that provide a pathway to the Diocesan Athletics level. A school squad will be announced next week. Thank you also to Mrs Hogarth who planned and prepared for the Kinder / Year 1 activities. Once again, they started well but had to be cut short due to the rain.
WINTER School Uniform
Winter certainly made its presence known today with very strong icy winds. From now on, all students are expected to be in their full Winter uniform each day (apart from their usual sports days).
Year 5 ZooSnooze
Tomorrow & Friday this week, Year 5 will head off on their two day excursion to Sydney. Their first stop will be to The Rocks to discover and experience a little bit about what life was like 200 years ago. They will then have the opportunity to walk across Sydney Harbour Bridge before a bus will pick them up in North Sydney to transport them to Taronga Park Zoo. Entry occurs once the zoo is officially closed for the day. Students will be then shown their tents for the night. A night walk through the zoo as well as a visit to the zoo classroom to meet some interesting creatures for part of the experience. Vivid is currently on throughout Sydney with the zoo hosting many fantastic, luminated creations. Day 2 is a more leisurely wander around the zoo before heading back home. The students are very excited as are the teachers attending. We look forward to hearing some recounts of their experiences next week.

WONDER RECYCLING REWARDS
Once again this year we will be participating in the Wonder Recycling Rewards for Schools initiative.
The Wonder Recycling Rewards programme is a fun and easy program created to collect and recycle soft plastics and bread tags that might otherwise go to landfill, and earn rewards points to redeem on new sports equipment for our school.
Once collected they can be placed in the special collection box in the Library (Year 3 classrooms)
The campaign closes 9 September.
Thanking you in advance
