Principal's Message - Mr Steve Thorne
Newsletter Week 3
A Prayer for Mother’s Day
On this special day set aside to honour mothers we ask for a
special touch from the Lord for each and every one of them.
May each mother in this room be granted a special blessing,
and may all of the work of her hands not be forgotten in Your sight.
Let her example to her children be a guiding force in their lives,
and may wisdom be passed down to the next generation of mothers.
Amen
Mothers’ Day
I hope all Mothers and mother figures had a great day last Sunday with some acknowledgement and celebration of all that you do. Thank you to Dominique Plunkett, Antoinette Semaan, Christina Anastiadis and Dani Talevski for purchasing gifts and running the Mothers’ Day stall last week. I never get tired of seeing the excitement on childrens’ faces when they purchase a gift.
P & F Bunnings BBQ - THIS SUNDAY
Thank you to those who responded after yesterday’s Compass notice. We have had a few volunteers but still need more to make the day manageable for all concerned. If you like a chat and a laugh, this is a great social event. New parents always very welcome. Please contact Louise if you can help 4229 1818
Year 6 Camp
This morning we farewelled our Year 6 who are now at their adventure camp at Fitzroy Falls. Despite being faced with wet, cold conditions, there was a lot of excitement in the air at 7am this morning. Mr Timpano, Mrs Hogan, Mrs Townsend and myself will provide supervision for the three days.
Before School Supervision
Parents are reminded that supervision at St Therese commences at 8.20am. Students should not be arriving before this time. If parents have work commitments, Before School Care is available in the school hall from 7am. Cost for this service can be as low as $8 depending on income subsidies. Parents can also apply for the Government $500 Child Care voucher which can be used as a credit for future sessions. For this cost, students receive a good breakfast, are well cared for and have time to play. Please contact Catholic Care directly or contact Louise in the office.
School Athletics Carnival
This will be held at Beaton Park on Monday, 30 May. Students come to school as usual & will then be bused to the venue. We have been advised that the grass area at the centre of the track will be unusable so a revised program of events will be worked out over the coming weeks. As a general plan, all running events will start by 9.30am beginning with 800m, 200m and then 100m. We will then go into relays & novelty events.
Da Vinci 2022
On Wednesday 4 May sixteen students from Years 5 and 6 attended the Da Vinci Decathlon to represent our school. This year’s theme was ‘Causation’. The subjects were Creative Producers, Science, Ideation, Engineering, Legacy, Art and Poetry, Mathematics, English, Code Breaking and Cartography.
Abeba Bereket led our Year 5 team in Cartography and Legacy. Genova D’Amico saved the day in Ideation. Toby Ogunniyi and I, Hunter, represented in English. Nathaniel Binoy and Emmett Plunkett built a drone. Asher Flynn exercised all his math skill and I, Adriana, enjoyed my Creative Producers role play.
We feel that the Da Vinci Decathlon extended our life skills. We met new people, we learnt not to give up under pressure and most of all we learnt how to help each other as a team.
Our team has been preparing on Tuesday afternoons since last year. It was hard work but worth it because we had a great day in the end.

School Uniform
We are currently in a transition phase from Summer to Winter uniform. During this time, either uniform can be worn, depending on the weather. Whichever unifrom is chosen, it should be the full uniform - NOT a mixture of both.
School Photos
School photos are scheduled for Wednesday 25th May 2022.
This year, all students are expected to be in their FULL WINTER UNIFORM.

WONDER RECYCLING REWARDS
Once again this year we will be participating in the Wonder Recycling Rewards for Schools initiative.
The Wonder Recycling Rewards programme is a fun and easy program created to collect and recycle soft plastics and bread tags that might otherwise go to landfill, and earn rewards points to redeem on new sports equipment for our school.
Once collected they can be placed in the special collection box in the Library (Year 3 classrooms)
The campaign closes 9 September.
Thanking you in advance
