Principal's Message - Mr Steve Thorne
Wednesday of the Fifth Week of Lent
April 1- Wednesday of the Fifth Week of Lent
Readings: Luke 8: 15
Invitation to Prayer: Lord, open the ears of my heart to hear you speak in Sacred Scripture; words that speak of truth and freedom and peace.
Reflection: “If you remain in my word you will truly be my disciples…”. Today’s words from Jesus are a powerful reminder to us that one of the ways we can live out our discipleship is by remaining in God’s Word. Hebrews reminds us that, “The word of God is living and effective…” (Heb 4:12). It is alive and powerful and true. It can give us freedom and healing. It is a firm foundation for our lives. When we read and pray Scripture, it is a personal encounter with the One who loves us, Jesus.
In this difficult time, when we’re unable to receive Jesus in the Eucharist, let us be nourished by Him and remain in Him through Scripture.
Prayer: Lord, let your words be a lamp unto my feet that guide me into a deeper encounter with you and allow me to live my discipleship more fervently. Amen.
COVID-19
Once again I am happy to sing the praises of all that teachers are doing to provide remote learning for our students – they are continually amazing me! My concern for staff at the moment is the difficulty many teachers have reconciling what they would have taught if it was school as normal against what they are able to achieve in the remote environment. The clear message from the Catholic Education Office is that teachers need to scale back the amount of work and focus mainly on Religion, English and Maths. Other KLAs are important as they are often the ones that provide greater interest for the children.
If you haven’t had the opportunity as yet, please read through the letter I sent yesterday afternoon which hopefully provides some guidance for parents in this new environment.

Online Teacher Communication
Its great that students are becoming comfortable with emailing their teachers when they are unsure about an activity. Unfortunately, answering emails will not always happen immediately. Currently, teachers can be receiving in excess of 100 emails per day, which they will respond to as soon as possible, but students and parents do need to be patient.
Robotics (Yr 2 - Yr 6)
Gerado Montoya has been working with Michelle Devine and students at St Therese to develop robotic skills. He is offering students the opportunity to access online workshops throughout April. The program he is using does not require participants to have their own robot. There is a cost involved but this may be an opportunity to support the interests of some students. Cyber Safety
Tik Tok continues to be mentioned in the media in relation to cybersafety. The app has a 13+ rating but, speaking to many students and parents, there appears to be quite a lot of students accessing this and other potentially harmful sites. My own adult children occasionally show me Tik Tok clips which can be quite funny but with younger children, the warnings regarding dangerous challenges and potential grooming are a big concern unsupervised.

Hello to all the St Therese West Wollongong family and community,
As the world around us continues to change the educators of ST Therese OOSH wanted to help support the children in understanding the importance of hand washing in a fun and interesting way by doing a little science experiment called pepper germs. This is a great way for children to visualise the benefits of your hands washing hands with Soap. If you would like to try the experiment as a family at home just click the link here. We had a great time doing this experiment I know you will too.
If you would Like to enrol your child/ren into OOSH for Before school and after school, please click the link below to start the process.
If you have any questions, please drop in our Coordinator Nicole is here till 9:30am and from 2:30pm to answer any questions.
