Principal's Message - Mr Steve Thorne
Newsletter Week 2
Staff Spirituality (Pupil Free) Day
As notified via Compass last week, the Staff Spirituality Day has been moved to Wednesday, 20 October. Due to Covid, we have had to change our intended topic and presenter so we have opted for a Wednesday where there will be minimal disruption for families.
Return to School
The Roadmap to Recovery for Schools guidelines, as stipulated by the State Government, is that:
- Kinder & Year 1 return Monday, 18 October
- Years 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 all return Monday, 25 October
Face-to-face teaching will commence on the above dates, up to that point students will continue to be engaged via remote learning. Parents are asked to continue their great support by keeping children at home until their designated return date.
A separate letter is being sent today outlining the Covid safe measures being put in place.
In preparation for the return to school, below are two links which parents may find useful. The first is a short 8 minute video which may provide some strategies, or answer some of the questions parents may have:
https://nipinthebud.org/information-films/tips-for-returning-to-school/
This second link is to a flowchart that parents may be interested to use as a discussion starter with your child(ren) to help prepare them for the return to school:
Please remember, as parents, that what you say or the attitude you have, will impact your child(ren). Children are very perceptive and if they feel you are anxious / concerned then they will also take this onboard. Returning to school should be treated as a positive and exciting time. I know the staff at school are treating it this way and have spent, and continue to spend, considerable time to make those first few days / weeks fun and enjoyable where wellbeing and connection will be the focus.
First Day Back
Next Monday, Kinder and Year 1 return. A separate letter will be sent to these families today outlining a few fun things we have planned. A similar letter will go to Years 2 - 6 next week in preparation for their return.
Classes 2022
As usual at this time of the year, parents are invited to communicate with me if they have any concerns regarding their child’s learning in 2022. This is not an opportunity to pick and choose your child’s teacher but a time where you can let me know about your child’s learning style, friendship issues, etc. Ultimately there are many variables which impacts which grades teachers’ teach and we can only split students into one of two classes. While I will take onboard parental concerns, I cannot guarantee all requests will be met.
Uniform / Hair Styles
As part of the transition back to normal routines, I ask parents to be aware of the uniform requirements and school guidelines around hair styles. In saying that, I am aware that there is a 3 month backlog of barber/hairdresser appointments so I am not expecting things to happen overnight.
Canteen
At this stage, the school canteen will not be re-opening on the student return to school date. Fresh Start have a few Covid issues to work through before opening can occur. We will let parents know once we get a firm opening date.
students enrolled at a CEDoW school will be expected to return to face-to-face
learning on their school campus.
Schools are eagerto welcome students back to campus where they can benefit
not only from the experience of expertise of theirteachers in the classroom, but
the wide range of social and emotional experience available in the school community.
