Principal's Message - Mr Steve Thorne
Newsletter Week 10
Prayer for families during this pandemic
God of mercy and love,
Be with my family
as we are facing illness and fragility during this time in our world.
Be with my family
as we face physical isolation and, at times, aloneness.
Be with my family
as we face irritation, fear and anger.
God of mercy and love,
Be with my family and all families of the world
and help us to see that we are not alone.
Help us to see that you are with us always.
God of mercy and love,
Be with my family and all families of the world
as we gather together constructively and creatively,
trusting that we can experience the peace and joy of your Resurrection in our lives. Amen.
Covid Update
Once again I would like to acknowledge the tremendous support that I have experienced over the past week. Having been in isolation myself (36 hours to go!!), I am very grateful that my children are grown up. I feel for the families where children don’t fully understand why they can’t do certain things that they always considered ‘normal’.
My advice to parents is to assist children to look for greatness in the things around them and in our world, encourage a sense of wonder and awe and to make gratitude an important part of every day. By having an outward looking perspective, children can avoid negative thoughts and the sense that the world is against them.
The weekly posts onto our school FaceBook page are about letting children see what other children are doing, that there are opportunities to be engaged in an activity and having fun. This week, the post will feature some absolutely beautiful artwork where children have embraced the theme of what is important to them at our school.
School Holidays
This Friday marks the end of Term 3. In one sense, this term has been very long and difficult but at other times I look back and think, where has that time gone and how did we ever get through that!. We are resilient people, that is the key.
For many, these holidays will seem very much the same as the last 10 weeks but children will not be engaged in school work. My hope is that families can find quality time to spend together and look for those opportunities (close to home) for wonder and awe. We certainly do live in a beautiful part of the world and our Local Government Area is quite extensive with many ways to enjoy the sunshine and nature.
End of Term Assembly
This Friday, we will be conducting our awards assembly as a virtual event. This is new to us but well worth a try. Below is the link to the Zoom event. This link will also be posted to class SeeSaw or Google Classroom pages. During this Zoom, we ask that all microphones remain switched off as we could have potentially 360 participants. As names are read out, student photos will appear on the screen - this will only happen during the zoom and will not then be posted anywhere else.
Steve Thorne is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

Farewell Mrs Louise Macdonald
This Friday marks the last day for Louise as she takes up her new role at the Bishop’s Office in Wollongong. Louise has had a huge contribution to the education of many students at St Therese over the last 5 years and I know she will be sadly missed by staff, parents and students, especially those in Year 3 Gold. However, this is a time of celebration that we have had Louise for so long and now we wish her all the very best next as she enters a new and exciting chapter in her life.
Invitation from Fr Duane
Please scroll down to the parish section of this newsletter to see an invitation from Fr Duane to tune in to a Zoom tonight on Fatherhood featuring Danny Abdullah (most will remember the horrifically tragic accident last year where three of Danny’s innocent children were killed).
Christmas Story Art Competition 2021 for Stage 3 Students.
Due to the continuation of lockdown into Term 4 2021, the opportunity to complete our Art project at school can no longer go ahead under the traditional format.
So unfortunately the decision has been made that St Therese will not be able to enter the competition this year. There were a variety of issues that were discussed at a school level that has led us to make this decision, including ensuring a fair and equitable opportunity for all students to participate under the lockdown rules. I commend each and every student in Stage 3, for their individual efforts, commitment and preparation during this unit (Religion lessons and activities) during remote learning.
Any questions or queries, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Regards Mrs Calvert
Religious Education Coordinator.
