Principal's Message - Mr Steve Thorne
Newsletter Week 9
National Child Protection Week
5-11 September 2021
Theme: Every child, in every community, needs a fair go.
To treat all of Australia’s children fairly, we need to make sure every family and community has what kids need to thrive and be healthy.
Covid Update
After a very busy and unsettling few days, things seem to have settled from a school perspective. I know the effects of being a close contact will last in many families until the end of next week. Thank you once again for all the messages of support that we regularly get from parents. We do have a number of staff who are considered close contacts and will be isolating at home until Friday next week (2 weeks from exposure). At this stage we have had no positive cases come from this incident. The source of the infection at school is doing well showing only mild symptoms - hopefully this will be the case for the next week and a full recovery will come quickly. Children specified as casual contacts as per the letter parents would have received, must have had a Negative test result before returning onsite. This result must be forwarded to school.
We do have another family from our school community where the whole family have tested positive. This family have been embracing home learning throughout the whole term so there has been no contact with the school.
Covid Tests: As part of Catholic Education guidelines, we ask parents to screenshot Covid test results and email through to the school office. This has always been a request and will continue into the foreseeable future.
Appreciation - Parenting Ideas
Attached is an article from Parenting Ideas which I thought very appropriate at this time. It offers strategies that encourage children to appreciate what they have rather than developing a ‘glass half empty’ approach.
End of Term Assembly
Friday, 17 September is the last day of Term 3. To mark this with some sense of normality, we will be having an Awards Assembly at 11.30am via Zoom. We will include a link in next week’s newsletter.
Christmas Story Art Competition 2021 for Stage 3 Students.
Due to the continuation of lockdown into Term 4 2021, the opportunity to complete our Art project at school can no longer go ahead under the traditional format.
So unfortunately the decision has been made that St Therese will not be able to enter the competition this year. There were a variety of issues that were discussed at a school level that has led us to make this decision, including ensuring a fair and equitable opportunity for all students to participate under the lockdown rules. I commend each and every student in Stage 3, for their individual efforts, commitment and preparation during this unit (Religion lessons and activities) during remote learning.
Any questions or queries, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Regards Mrs Calvert
Religious Education Coordinator.
