Principal's Message - Mr Steve Thorne
Newsletter Week 3
Remote Learning
At the time of writing this newsletter, we are still awaiting official confirmation as to what an extended lockdown will mean for us. As soon as we are notified, I will communicate this to parents via a Compass notification.
Students attending onsite
Thank you for the great support from parents during this challenging time for all of us. The official guideline is that students should not be attending school unless their parents are essential workers and have no other options. We have had a great response to this. The result is that class teachers, while generally working remotely, can concentrate solely on teaching remotely and communicating with students. Our specialist teachers, along with School Support Officers, are doing a fantastic job supporting the students who need to be at school but still completing the same online activities.
Grandparents Day Posters
While we have had to cancel the Grandparents’ Mass, Mrs Townsend is seeking posters designed by students for their grandparents. This can be as creative as you like. Once completed, take a photo of the poster and send it toinfo@stwwdow.catholic.edu.au by 11am on Thursday. Mrs Townsend will then create a slideshow to place on our school FaceBook page on Friday.
Principal’s Challenge
With an extended period of remote learning, I will set a challenge for students each week with photos again being uploaded to our FaceBook page. The challenge for next week is for students to dress up as an Olympian. You could be:
- a swimmer preparing to dive into the pool
- an athlete receiving a medal
- a pole vaulter preparing their run
- Be creative and set a scene. Take a photo to send to info@stwwdow.catholic.edu.au by 11am on Thursday, 5 August. The slideshow will then be uploaded to Facebook on Friday, 6 August.
Sacramental Program for Confirmation and First Communion
Year 6 and Year 3 parents would have received a letter on Monday announcing the changes to the Sacramental program for the remainder of 2021. In essence, Confirmation will be held during Term 4 with the Sacrament being administered by Fr Duane. First Communion for our current Year 3 students will be held in Term 1, 2022. This decision is still subject to Covid restrictions at the time.
Congratulations Zeke Thompson!
Zeke was recently named in the NSW U13’s Hockey Squad. This comes on top of his previous selection in the NSW PSSA Merit Team.
From this squad, NSW Hockey would normally select two teams to compete in the National Championships being held in Tasmania in October. Unfortunately this is increasingly looking like being cancelled due to Covid. Zeke’s hockey skills are certainly of a very high standard and we hope he gets the opportunity, in the near future, to progress in his sport to an even higher level.
Welcome to our St Therese Remote Learning site
The purpose of this site is to plan for educational continuity for the students of St Therese Catholic Primary School and ensure that learning continues for your child at home. In addition, it aims to provide clarity across the school community about the delivery of home learning.
There will be regular changes to our website. Please bookmark this site on your child's device.

Thank you Michael Klocovski
I mentioned this last year when the convent was demolished but thought it worthy of an update. The image below shows one of the Convent Crosses which was restored and now mounted in the office for all to see. The second cross has also been restored and will be mounted in the Parish Centre once completed. This further shows the strong connection we have to the parish and recognises the wonderful work done by the Good Samaritan Sisters in the school and parish for over 50 years.
Thank you Michael for you generosity in restoring the crosses for us!
Kiss & Drop Zone
During this time of lockdown, we ask that any students attending school be dropped off in the Kiss & Drop Zone on Powell St. With so few numbers of students and staff onsite, it’s safer and more efficient to monitor just the one entrance.
