Principal's Message - Mr Steve Thorne
Wednesday of Holy Week
Today we see Judas plot Jesus’ betrayal. He sold his friendship with him for thirty pieces of silver. We might shake our head in disapproval. However, we too, can let our own selfish thoughts and actions disrupt our relationship with God and with each other.
Scripture tells us ‘One of the Twelve, the man called Judas Iscariot went to the chief priests and said, ‘What are you prepared to give me if I hand him over to you?’ They paid him thirty silver pieces, and from that moment he looked for an opportunity to betray him.’ (Matthew 26:14-25)
Although we might betray God’s trust in us, the God Jesus showed us is a forgiving God. There is nothing, no matter how bad, that his love cannot forgive and heal. In these days we are encouraged to seek forgiveness for our failings – to be reconciled with God and to be reconciled with each other.
In the Readings, the Prophet Isaiah continues to enlighten us to the sufferings to come. The Psalm takes up the idea of betrayal, isolation and suffering. In the Gospel we see Judas plot with the chief priests against Jesus for thirty pieces of silver.
To do Think of three good things in your life and thank God for them. Make a random act of kindness for someone in your house or elsewhere. Practice reconciliation where there are disagreements. Read the story of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32) or view it told in a YouTube clip. Access one of the Gospels and read the account of Jesus’ death on the cross.
CONGRATULATIONS Year 5 Da Vinci Team
We all had a HUGE surprise yesterday when we heard the news that our St Therese Year 5 Da Vinci team won the overall competition. We have entered teams for quite a few years now with quite a bit of success in various disciplines but this is the first time we have had a team finish first (let alone in the top three). While it’s great to win any competition, this is even more significant because our teams were competing against Opportunity Classes (OC) from a number of State Schools as well as some of the very expensive schools such as TIGS, Knox and Gib Gate (feeder school to Frensham).
The team, consisting of:
Samantha Mercado Jack Thompson
Madeline Towers Isaiah Barila
Annabelle Dellis Jude Kiley
Maddison Newell-Glaser Fabian Gaudiosi
will now represent St Therese and the Illawarra Region in the State Final of the competition. Normally this would involve travelling to an interesting location in the state however due to Covid restrictions, the final will be conducted via Zoom. This will be held on Thursday, 6 May.
Congratulations Year 6 Da Vinci Team
While not faring as well as the Year 5 team in terms of overall points, we are all still very proud of the efforts of our Year 6 team. They were a credit to the school and their families in the way they committed themselves to the tasks and worked collaboratively as a team. Well done!
Congratulations and thank you to Mrs Carol Hiscox for taking on the Da Vinci Decathlon as a way of challenging some of our students. This was first introduced a number of years ago with many, many students competing and enjoying the challenges it presents. Well done!!
Holy Week Liturgy
Thank you to all involved in the planning and preparation for the Holy Week Liturgy today, especially to Mrs Kirra Calvert for overall organisation and Mrs Jenna Hogan for preparing the band and choir so well. It has been a long time since we have been able to come together for any reason, let alone such an important occasion in the Church calendar as Holy Week
