Principal's Message - Mr Steve Thorne
“They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, "Hosanna!" "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" "Blessed is the king of Israel!" John 12:13
Palm Sunday is significant because it marks the beginning of Holy Week, that very important day when Jesus began His journey toward the cross.
Yet often, maybe in the midst of busy lives, or in the flurry of activity around the upcoming Easter holiday, the significance of this special day might get missed.
God’s Word reminds us how there's such great meaning in every part of Christ’s story, all directing us towards our need for a Savior...
In each of the gospels, we find the story of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. The people cut palm branches and waved them in the air, then laid them out on the ground before Him as He rode into the city. The palm branch is known to represent goodness and victory, symbolic of the final victory He would soon fulfill over sin and death.
But no one knew the full story then. They had no idea what would soon transpire…
They just knew, at that moment, on that day, they longed to give worship and praise to Jesus.

Dismissal Time - Kiss & Collect
As stated previously, dismissal time has been brought forward to 2.50pm. The purpose of this is to get as many students picked up through Kiss & Collect as possible before traffic starts to build up on Powell St. Parents arriving before 3.05pm should be able to drive start in but after this time there is generally additional traffic. After speaking with TIGS, their buses are legally allowed to travel up the wrong side of the road when there is an ‘obstruction’ - my understanding of the law is that if our parents do the same, they may be hit with a fine from police. I urge parents to check BOTH ways when exiting the presbytery carpark.
Holy Week Liturgy
Will be held on the back playground next Wednesday at 11.30am. Parents are welcome to come along. In case of poor weather, the liturgy will be moved into the hall.
End of Term Awards
Will be held on Thursday, 1 April at 11.30am. Once again, we aim to have this as an outdoor event and parents are welcome. In case of poor weather, we will move into the hall.
This has been rescheduled for Wednesday, 21 April at the same West Dapto venue. If for any reason this has to again be cancelled, a time trial will be set up at school for students interested in trying to make the school squad. The Diocesan Cross Country Carnival is on Monday, 26 April.
Great news for our Year 5/6 students who have trained for the PKC. After a second wash out, it has now been rescheduled for Friday, 7 May (Week 3). A new note and details will be sent early next term.

Harmony Week Celebrations : Everyone Belongs 15 - 21 March
Harmony Week is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values.
We began last week with a beautiful prayer service including some of our Year 6 students sharing a little of their own stories and speaking a little in their own language. Many interesting craft activities were organised for students to complete during the week.
Thank you to Ms Pellizzari and Mrs Johansson, for your dedication and organisation of this important week in our yearly calendar.
St Patrick's Day 17 March
What a wonderful celebration it was last week celebrating St Patrick's Day! $??? was raised for Project Compassion, CARITAS Australia - thank you for your generosity.
It was amazing to see the community spirit of St Therese shine. Thank you to all families who dressed up their children in green - they looked fantastic! Also a huge thank you to the Year 3 and 4 families who brought in such an amazing range of delicious green food - it is greatly appreciated. Lastly, thank you to the wonderful helpers who assisted with the setting up and selling of the food - the day could not have happened without you.
Mr Bunder.
Thank you Mr Bunder, Stage 2 teachers and parents/carers for planning, organising and running such a successful day. Project Compassion
St Joseph’s Day - 19 March
Our Stage One student’s presented our Prayer Service on Friday for the Feast of St Joseph.
This year we celebrate the 150th anniversary of Saint Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church. A “Year of St Joseph” will run from December 8th, 2020 to December 8th, 2021. We will also be celebrating St Joseph later in the year.
Thank you to Miss Tobin, Ms Pellizzari and Stage One teachers and students for such a lovely prayer.
Annunciation of the Lord - 25 March
On the Feast of the Annunciation, we celebrate the day that the Angel Gabriel visited the Virgin Mary announcing that she was going to be the mother of Jesus. Even though Mary did not understand completely, she trusted God’s plan for her life, and she said yes to becoming the mother of God and our mother. Thank you Mrs McGoldrick and the Year Five classes for preparing and presenting a lovely Prayer service this week for ‘The Annunciation’.
Holy Week Liturgy Week 10 - Wednesday 31 March
On Wednesday 31/3/21 at 11:30 we will be holding our Holy Week Liturgy outdoors in the back playground so that all students can participate. This will also afford us the opportunity to invite our parents/caregivers to be a part of our gathering. It would be lovely to share this special liturgy as a whole community.
YOUR OOSH NEWS
Hello to all the St Therese West Wollongong family and community,
WEEK 9 who can believe that we are almost to the end of Term 1 2021 …. There have been so many new changes this year so far and so many more exciting ones to come.
Firstly I would like to say a big thank you to Emliy Chapman our permanent educator here at St Therese OOSH, who stepped up to be the Responsilble person of our service while I was on leave. Also massive thank you to the staff although St Therese for the extra support for Emily and the children in the last two weeks. And to all of our oosh families thank you for your support as well ?.
This Term has been an adventure for all of us at St Therese OOSH. We have welcomed many new children into our OOSH family and it has been a joy getting to know all of them. This year we have started to see progress in out veggie and fruit garden which is currently growing watermelons and the outcomes are looking promising the children are very excited. Two of our most anticipated areas of play this term have been drama and our small world. This is where the children get to use their imagination and chance to show their understanding up the world around them. The children have chosen drama set ups such as Hairdresser, ourthouse, airport etc. The small world investergations have been ideas like underwater, jarassic world, enchanted rainforest
If any of these activities plus lots more sound like something your children will enjoy, and you would like to enrol your child/ren into OOSH for Before school care and/or After school care
please click the link below to start the process.
