Principal's Message - Mr Steve Thorne
Wednesday of the
Second Week of Lent
Invitation to prayer: Matt 20: 17-28
Invitation to prayer: Save me, O Lord, in Your kindness.
Reflection: In today’s Gospel, Jesus announces the Passion for the third time, the mother of James and John ask Jesus to put her sons at His left and right hand, and Jesus’ stern reply to her.. Jesus also asks if the apostles are capable of drinking of the chalice of which He will drink. They readily answer, “yes!!”
As I too, answer “yes!!” with such enthusiasm, ready to take on anything for my Lord, but a piece of my heart always wants a little something out of it for myself. I seem to forget that the chalice that our Lord drank from was the chalice of suffering, the chalice of rejection.
This Lent, instead of pushing myself to the limit and making big promises to the Lord to prove my love and worthiness to be by His side, I am simply entering the desert and asking, “what do You desire?” Because I’ve come to realise He often just desires simple things from me, and while I am trying to make big grand gestures, can I even complete this simple things? I don’t think Lent is meant to fill us, it is meant to empty us, so we can later be filled by the joy of Easter!
Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me enter into the desert so I can leave being emptied of myself, and full of the goodness You have planned for my life. Amen.
Closing: What are my desires and do I need to change those earthly desires and be a disciple of Christ? Is my “yes” to satisfy me or to truly be a conversion to the Lord?
Relics of St Therese & her Parents
As mentioned in the Parish Bulletin, these relics will be on display in:
- Mary Immaculate Church, Unanderra from 4.30 – 8.30pm on Saturday, 21 March
- St Therese Church, West Wollongong from 8.30pm on Saturday 21 March to 11.30am Sunday, 22 March.
As the relics are only in the parish over a weekend, organising a school liturgy is not possible. However, we would like to have as many children as possible attend the 10am Mass on Sunday, 22 March to form a choir and Guard of Honour as the relics leave the church.
Principal’s Awards
Mani Kotagama – 2G
Silver Medallion
Willow Doyle – 5G
P & F Executive
These positions of President, Vice President and Secretary will be open to nominations at the next meeting on March 24 and if necessary a secret ballot will be held. Voting can only be accepted from those who attend the meeting.
Cyber Safety
Last week I mentioned the App called Tik Tok. It has been in the news this week highlighting the dangers it poses to young children if not closely supervised. I again remind parents that it is rated for children of 13+ years of age. No primary school children should have access to this App.
Messaging: We have spoken to a number of students in Year 5 this week regarding messaging (this issue is not confined to just Year 5). The iPads Year 5 students have for school have iMessage switched off, so the issues we are hearing about are occurring on home iPads. Please be aware of what your children are sending to other children. If you have concerns about what others are sending, please take a screen shot and send into either myself or the class teacher so that these issues can be addresses.

St Patrick’s Day - 17th March Week 8
Our Faith in Action fundraiser is fast approaching!
Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered to help set up the food stalls and sell the green food at recess. Also a huge thank you to all the Stage 2 parents who are organising bringing in green food for our fundraiser. These types of days would not be possible without your help.
Looking forward to seeing everyone wearing green, eating green and most importantly helping raise money for those in need at St Mary Star of the Sea community who were greatly affected by the recent bushfires.
Project Compassion - The students and families at St Therese continue to show their generosity. The theme of Project Compassion is “Let’s Go Further Together”. We are encouraging students to be actively involved in raising money for project compassion to help those less fortunate than us.
In week 6 the school raised a total of $62.50 for project compassion. Congratulations to 3 Blue for raising $21.80.
Upcoming Feast days

Catholic Schools Week
Our Catholic Schools week Liturgy in the Church was led by 4 Gold. Thank you to Mrs Millner and 4 Gold for their preparation and the beautiful way you shared your thoughts about Catholic Schools week. The best way for us to “embrace the future together” is to listen to our children who are the future, thank you to all the students who shared their thoughts about Catholic Schools and why being in a Catholic School is wonderful!
Relics of St Therese
We have a very special upcoming event in our Parish. The relics of St Therese will be arriving at our Parish around 8.30pm on the 21 March and staying in the Church until around 11.30am the next day. To celebrate this special event, the Bishop will be celebrating Mass at St Therese at 10am. As this is an important event for our Parish, the school has been asked to be involved, again we will be looking for children in the band and choir to perform a song during the Mass. We will also ask children to form a guard of honour at approximately 11.30 after Mass to watch the relics leave. If your child is interested in being involved please come and see me (Mrs Staff).
