Principal's Message - Mr Steve Thorne
Catholic Schools’ Week
This year, Catholic Schools Week (CSW) will be held from 28 February - 6 March. The theme for 2021 is ‘Faith in the Future’. This theme is shared with dioceses across the country as together we celebrate 200 years of Catholic education in Australia.
As we pause this week to reflect on the precious gift of Catholic education, we remember the intergenerational contributions that preceded us and that we continue to build upon. Since the very first Catholic school was established, countless children and young people have benefitted from the dedication and commitment of parents and staff in our Catholic schools.
Dear Lord
Catholic Schools Week is a special time in the year when we celebrate the extraordinary achievements of our Catholic schools. It is a time to give thanks for the wonderful teaching and learning that takes place each day in every classroom. We acknowledge and thank all who work in the service of Catholic education to create the opportunities for students that allow them to grow and thrive.
We thank you for
the wisdom and understanding of teachers
the enthusiasm and energy of students
the leadership of school Principals and leadership staff
the skill, care and commitment of administrative and support staff
the guidance of our priests and religious leaders
the support and partnership of parents, carers and local communities.
We pray that each student’s learning journey be inspired by a search for your wisdom and truth.
We pray that we never take for granted the learning opportunities that we have all been given, and that we use the gifts of learning wisely and responsibly.
We ask that we use what we have learnt to create a better world for all people, particularly the most vulnerable and disadvantaged.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.
Welcome to Mr Peter Hill - Director of Catholic Education in the Wollongong Diocese
Today we have had the privilege of having Mr Peter Hill join us for the day. Peter has spent time visiting classrooms, meeting with Year 6 student leaders, school leadership team and with fr Duane. Peter saw the Primary building at its worst towards the end of last year so was quite pleased to see the renovations to date.
Enrolments for Kinder 2022 - NOW OPEN
Applications for first round offers for Kinder 2022 are now being taken. This will close on April 1 with interviews being held during Term 2. If you have a child due to start next year, please get the application in by the end of term as we are getting a lot of interest from new families.
Kiss & Collect
Reminder that it is illegal to cross to the wrong side of the road when driving up Powell St - regardless of the fact that traffic may be banked up. Police fines will be quite hefty as it is within a School Zone. The best times for Kiss & Collect are between 2.55 & 3.10pm and then again from 3.20 to 3.30pm. Please help to keep all of our children safe.
CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY FOR SCHOOLS
This Friday, 5th March, all K– 6 children will actively participate in the “Clean Up Australia Day” by cleaning up the perimeter of the school. We are encouraging that all children bring in a pair of gloves to assist in the clean-up. Thank you
SPORTS NEWS
South Coast Swim Carnival
On Tuesday the children who were successful at the St Therese swim carnival attended the South Coast Swim carnival. This was a great swim meet with children from across the Diocese attending. Our team had a great meet with all children giving their best in the pool.
Congratulations to Drew Potter who came second in his breaststroke and third in his backstroke which puts him through to next Mondays Swim selection trials.
Congratulations to Alex Mpimperias who has made the MacKillop Tennis team. This is a great achievement. Well Done Alex. Another trial took place where Ayden Celebi participated in the basketball. Unfortunately, Ayden wasn’t successful but made the possible and probable final listings on the day. This is a great achievement. Well done Ayden.
Finally, the rugby league and soccer trials will be taking place this Friday. Good luck to Noah Locke, Gus Tunbridge, Jemison Hansen, Lucas Jaure, (Rugby League) Fabian Gaudiosi, Ayden Celebi, and Jude Kiley (soccer).
Next Week we have Cooper Kerr and Zeke Thompson attending the hockey trials. Good luck to these boys.
Our St Therese cross country will be taking place on 18th March. I hope all the children are out there clocking up those kilometres in preparation for this event.
