Principal's Message - Mr Steve Thorne

Welcome Kinders
On Friday this week, we will welcome for the first time our 56 students commencing Kinder. This is obviously an exciting time for children and their families but one that can at times bring some mixed feelings and anxiety. To assist the transition, a parent or carer will be allowed to walk their child to the classroom for a period of time.
Parents onsite
Tomorrow is the last day for parents of students in Years 1 to 6 to come onsite in the mornings. Adhering to Covid guidelines, we now need to go back to the routines of 2020 where parents either Kiss & Drop or walk children only as far as the sanitising tables. Kinder parents will still be permitted to walk children in for a little while.
Afternoon dismissal updates
Thank you for your ongoing support and patience with the Kiss & Collect Zone. Last week we had a couple of days grace without TIGS parents but this week we have seen an increase in traffic but still flowing quite smoothly most of the time. From Friday, this will change again with new families starting in Kinder. Once again I ask for driver patience and consideration which sets a good example for our children and keeps everyone safe.
2021 Student Council
Congratulations to the Year 6 students who were voted , by the staff and their peers, into the role of Student Council. I congratulate these students and am confident that they will represent our school with pride.
Congratulations to the Year 6 students who were voted into the role of Sports Captains. These students will be called upon from time to time to support Mr Bernardi in managing sports equipment and in the running of sports events.
Swimming Carnival
Ninety three students will compete at this year’s school swimming carnival - a big increase from the past few years. This is great news and the weather will be perfect. Unfortunately, parents are not able to attend unless you are a designated volunteer - these positions have already been allocated. All students will return to school by 12.30pm.
Message from Assistant Principal - Mrs Dimitra Vezinias
Welcome back to the 2021 school year. I hope everyone has had a safe and happy holiday and enjoyed some family time. Starting a new school year brings changes, adjustments and another level of trust for the students and the teachers as we all settle into the school year.
I am looking forward to 2021 and to working with you and your children.
Personalised Planning Meetings
Personalised Planning Meetings are being scheduled for Term 1 to discuss your child’s individual learning plan. This plan is aimed at supporting your child’s specific needs whether they be medical, emotional, social or learning support. Meetings are scheduled for 30 minutes. If your child requires a Personalised Plan, an invitation was sent home with your child on Monday and bookings are open to book your interview time. Bookings will close on Thursday 11 February at 9.00am.You DO NOT need to book a MEET & GREET meeting that is scheduled in Week 3.
Meet and Greet Prent Meetings
These meetings will commence next week for Years 2 - 6. Year 1 will follow in Week 4 and Kinders a little later. The purpose of these meetings is to meet the class teacher and for parents to highlight some important information about your child. Meetings will be held in classrooms unless they are during school hours - in this case the meeting will be in the office. Due to Covid, we must keep to the 10 minute time limit so that we don't have a build up of parents onsite.

Community Notice
From January onwards, there will be a number of School Opal cards expiring, as the physical card has reached its lifespan.
These are cards for students who will be in years 8 to 12 in 2021, and only those Opal cards which haven’t been replaced in the last five years.
Impacted students and/or their parent/guardian will be contacted directly by Transport for NSW via email or post. They will be asked to confirm their details online in order for a new School Opal card to be sent to the correct postal address in time for the new school year.
If contacted by Transport for NSW, details should be submitted online by December 1, 2020 at the latest. Affected students who do not confirm their details in time will have a new School Opal card posted to the address we currently have on file.
