Principal's Message - Mr Steve Thorne
First Sunday of Advent
We wait at the doctor’s office. We wait in traffic. We wait in line at the coffee shop. We wait our turn. We wait for a sign from God. We wait to be heard. We wait.
Advent is waiting, also, but not in the listless, zoned-out way like we might wait at the local coffee shop, nor in the anxious, bored way we might wait at the doctor’s office or in traffic. Advent is active waiting, when the Church readies—physically and spiritually—for the coming of the Christ child.
Let us approach the season of preparation and waiting with anticipation and excitement. In this season of Advent, as we gather to wait for Jesus our Light to come, may our hearts be filled with joy and promise. We gather during this First Week of Advent to pray for the grace we need to live as people of hope. The Advent Wreath symbolises our growing hope and anticipation that the Lord Jesus may enter our lives more fully. Let us pray that this wreath may remind us to bring the light of Christ to the darkness of this world.
Heavenly Father,
your Church joyfully awaits the coming of its Saviour,
who enlightens our hearts and dispels the darkness of ignorance and sin.
Pour forth your blessings upon us and upon the candles of this wreath;
may their light reflect the splendour of Christ, who is Lord, for ever and ever.
Amen.
Staff Change
Mrs Jenny Jancetic has decided to take 12 months leave throughout 2021 to focus on family and other interests. This is a big loss to our staff and I know she will be missed by the students. We wish Jenny well and look forward to seeing her back again in 2022.
P & F Meeting – Change of Date
The next P&F Meeting will now be held on Tuesday, 1 December in the library. Everyone welcome.
2021 Swimming Carnival
Yesterday, Mr Bernardi sent home notes regarding the Swimming Carnival for 2021. All students who can swim one lap of the pool, in any stroke, should attend this event. We put this note out early to remind parents that it does come up very early in the year and it gives time for students to practise over Summer and maybe set a target during swimming lessons.
Christmas Celebration
This year, our Christmas celebration will be on Wednesday, 9 December. Unfortunately, according to current Covid restrictions, no parents will be allowed to attend. Parents will be notified if these directives change.
Crown St and Powell St Crossing
Parents are reminded to be aware of the road rules around the Pedestrian Crossings at the lights and School Crossings. Traffic rules and parking restrictions are there to improve safety arounds schools. We all have a role to play in keeping children safe especially stopping at a red light. No cars should be stopping across the crossing, regardless of whether they are in a line of traffic. If there is a build-up of traffic, stop before the crossing and then move through when there is space on the other side. Just a remind between 8.00am - 9.30am and 2.30pm - 4.00pm school days, the speed limit is 40km.
Most of us have seen discarded needles and syringes in parks and playgrounds at least once. As adults, we’re able to navigate our way to proper safety precautions. However, children don’t always know what to do if they see a needle and syringe.

Community Notice
From January onwards, there will be a number of School Opal cards expiring, as the physical card has reached its lifespan.
These are cards for students who will be in years 8 to 12 in 2021, and only those Opal cards which haven’t been replaced in the last five years.
Impacted students and/or their parent/guardian will be contacted directly by Transport for NSW via email or post. They will be asked to confirm their details online in order for a new School Opal card to be sent to the correct postal address in time for the new school year.
If contacted by Transport for NSW, details should be submitted online by December 1, 2020 at the latest. Affected students who do not confirm their details in time will have a new School Opal card posted to the address we currently have on file.
