Principal's Message - Mr Steve Thorne
NAIDOC WEEK
This week marks the celebration of NAIDOC Week. This year our theme is Always was. Always will be. We acknowledge that Indigenous peoples have the oldest continuing cultures on the planet and have inhabited this land for 65,000 years. We celebrate the history culture, spirituality and invaluable contributions that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have made – and continue to make - to our communities, our families, our rich history and to our nation.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were the first explorers
of this land and made the first maps.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were the first sailors of
this land and navigated the rivers and lakes.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were the first builders
and engineers of this land.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people criss-crossed this country
and were the first explorers of this land.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were the first gardeners
and farmers of this land.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were the first artists and
musicians of this land.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were the first to
sustainably provide for their future in this land.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were the first to stand
upon and make the first footprints on this land.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are culturally and
spiritually connected to this land.
Always was and always will be.
Let us pray
Loving and gracious God, who created this great land of Australia, we thank you for the Indigenous people who have lived in this land for thousands of years. We celebrate their love and care for and connectedness to this land and we pray that we listen to their voices as they share their history, culture, knowledge and understanding of this country with us. May we have open hearts, minds and spirits.
We ask this prayer in Jesus’ name.
Amen
Bunnings BBQ
Thank you to the 16 parents (and 1 older brother!) who assisted with the Bunnings BBQ on Saturday. While the day wasn’t as busy as in previous times, the volunteers had a great time catching up during their shift. Thanks also to the many, many parents who dropped in with the kids to buy a sausage – some even made a special trip just for the great conversation and a sausage on the side!!

Synthetic Grass
It’s finally here!! There is still a little finishing off to happen this Saturday, but the students have had a great time on the grass and discovering that they could come up with new games or having to modify the power shots they were used to in the larger squares. This project cost (approx. $20 000) was all funded by the P & F – money that has been raised by volunteers donating some of their time. Thanks again to everyone who has supported a P & F event in any way, you have contributed towards this project.

Apple Watches and Phones
Just a reminder that no students should be wearing Apple Watches (including other watches capable of playing games and photos) and carrying of phones is not permitted at St Therese. The school will take no responsibility if these items are lost or damaged. If parents require their child to have a phone, this is to be handed in at the office on arrival at school and then collected at 3pm.
Messaging Students
Reminder for parents of students in Years 5 & 6 not to message them during the day. Students accessing messages during learning time is a breach of our usage policy. If a message is very important, please contact Louise or Mary-Anne in the office who will ensure it gets passed on.
Building Project
Tenders close tomorrow on our renovations which means we should have a builder allocated by the end of the month. At this time we will have a clearer timeframe for when we will need to move the primary classes into the demountables.
