Principal's Message - Mr Steve Thorne
October: Month of the Rosary
How To Pray The Rosary
The purpose of the Rosary is to help keep in memory certain principal events in the history of our salvation. There are twenty mysteries reflected upon in the Rosary, and these are divided into the five Joyful Mysteries (said on Monday and Saturday), the five Luminous Mysteries (said on Thursday), the five Sorrowful Mysteries (said on Tuesday and Friday), and the five Glorious Mysteries (said on Wednesday and Sunday). As an exception, the Joyful Mysteries may be said on Sundays during Advent and Christmas, while the Sorrowful Mysteries may be said on the Sundays of Lent.
The question is sometimes asked, why, of all the incidents in our Lord’s life, the Rosary only considers these particular twenty. The mysteries of the Rosary are based on the incidents in the life of Our Lord and His Mother that are celebrated in the Liturgy. There is a parallel between the main feasts honoring our Lord and his Mother in the liturgical year, and the twenty mysteries of the Rosary. Consequently, one who recites the twenty mysteries of the Rosary in one day reflects on the whole liturgical cycle that the Church commemorates during the course of each year.
Joyful Mysteries The Annunciation The Visitation The Nativity The Presentation of Jesus in the Temple The Finding of Jesus in the Temple |
Sorrowful Mysteries The Agony in the Garden The Scourging at the Pillar The Crowning with Thorns The Carrying of the Cross The Crucifixion |
Glorious Mysteries The Resurrection The Ascension The Coming of the Holy Spirit The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary The Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary |
Luminous Mysteries The Baptism of Jesus The Wedding of Cana The Proclamation of the Kingdom of God The Transfiguration The Institution of the Eucharist |
Sinh Le’s Appeal
Sinh Le sends his heartfelt gratitude to all those who have contributed to the Go-Fund-Me page in support for the health care of his father in Vietnam. Sinh was very reserved and humble in setting a very low target, which has been surpassed. While this money is a God-send to support his family it is still not enough to relieve the situation they are facing. If you can contribute, please click on the following link:

Classes for 2021
It is at this time when we start looking at organising classes for 2021. Due to Covid restriction, I will not be meeting with parents as usual but if you feel there are specific circumstances that need to be considered for your child, please send an email marked attention to me. This is not an exercise in trying to choose a teacher for your child as there are many factors that go into creating classes such as friendships, personalities, academic ability, additional support. Students will be notified of their 2021 class on the last Monday of term. If you wish to have some input, please email by the end of October.

Christmas Story Art Competition - Congratulations to Ata Schwenke and Christiano Haddad
Both Year 6 students received awards for their entries in this year’s competition. Ata related the scripture passage of Mary and Joseph’s journey to her cultural background of Samoa. Similarly, Christiano was able to relate the passage to his own family’s flight from war torn Iraq and his journey to Australia. Both of these stories are captured on the link below where you can hear Ata and Christiano telling their stories:
Student artworks are also on exhibition at the Wollongong Art Gallery until the end of November. This is a great opportunity to perhaps introduce children to an art gallery that is free to attend and an interesting building to explore. I especially urge students in Years 4 & 5 to attend as they will gain ideas and insights that will help them during the competition in 2021.

Year 6 Camp, Fitzroy Falls
With changes announced recently to Covid restrictions, Year 6 are now off to camp in Fitzroy Falls for the next 3 days. This is a wonderful opportunity for the students to interact in a more social setting with their peers, teachers and camp staff. I thank Mrs Devine, Mr Timpano, Mr Bernardi and Mrs Townsend for volunteering for the many, many extra hours that they will do to ensure all students are safe, happy and have a very memorable experience.
Powell St Crossing / Council Rangers
Parents are reminded to be aware of the road rules around School Crossings. No cars should be stopping across the crossing, regardless of whether they are in a line of traffic. If there is a build-up of traffic, stop before the crossing and then move through when there is space on the other side. Council rangers are appearing more frequently especially around the top end of Powell St.

From January onwards, there will be a number of School Opal cards expiring, as the physical card has reached its lifespan.
These are cards for students who will be in years 8 to 12 in 2021, and only those Opal cards which haven’t been replaced in the last five years.
Impacted students and/or their parent/guardian will be contacted directly by Transport for NSW via email or post. They will be asked to confirm their details online in order for a new School Opal card to be sent to the correct postal address in time for the new school year.
If contacted by Transport for NSW, details should be submitted online by December 1, 2020 at the latest. Affected students who do not confirm their details in time will have a new School Opal card posted to the address we currently have on file.
