Principal's Message - Mr Steve Thorne
Covid-19
For all information and updates from the diocese, please go to: www.dow.catholic.edu.au/covid19
We have had, and continue to have, many students having Covid tests. Thank you for keeping us informed of when these are occurring. Please remember that students need to be kept at home until the Covid test result is known. Siblings should also be kept home at this time as transmission within the family is highly likely if one member should test positive. Students can return to school once there are no flu-like symptoms and parents provide proof of the negative test result.
Start Smart Financial Literacy
Due to Covid restrictions that are currently in place, the Start Smart Financial Literacy incursion that was booked for the next two days, has had to be cancelled.
Kiss & Collect
Parents are reminded that the gates do not open until 3pm for Kiss & Collect. We have quite a number of vehicles parked in a No Standing Zone for up to 30 minutes prior to this. Council Rangers can do, and have done patrols whereby they take photos of cars doing the wrong thing. If the gates are open and traffic is moving, albeit slowly, Rangers will be quite lenient however they don’t accept cars parked while the gates are shut. Please be aware of this.
Thank you for all the positive comments we have received regarding Kiss & Collect. Parents generally accept that there will be heavy traffic but, like Covid, we are all in this together. A teacher who was new to helping with Kiss & Collect commented that “while it is very busy for about 15 minutes, parents and students are so appreciative with lots of smiles and thank yous. You get a real buzz doing this duty!” What a great comment!
Late Arrival
Parents are reminded that the morning bell goes at 8.50am. All students arriving after the gate is closed will be marked as a late arrival.
Student Work Books
Over the next 3 weeks, students will be taking their workbooks home for parents to look through. This is an opportunity for talk to their child(ren) about their learning and to celebrate the great things they are doing. If you have any concerns about their work, please contact their class teacher to discuss. For students in Years 5 and 6, sharing some of their work stored in Google Classroom will provide further insight into what they are doing.
Assisting Children with Anxiety During Covid-19
Attached is an article that may provide some useful tips to parents if your child raises concerns around the Covid-19 pandemic.
Building Update
While there hasn’t been much happening since the convent was demolished that is visible, there is a lot happening behind the scenes with final plans nearing completion. I am hoping to receive notification later this week providing a timeline for the installation of the demountables on the convent site. This should commence in the next few weeks with some associated works of an accessibility ramp and stairs behind the canteen.

Being a good role model
Your child learns from you. This means you can model safe and healthy internet use by using digital media in the way you want your child to use it now and in the future. For example, you might keep internet-connected devices out of bedrooms, and use technology for positive purposes like sending supportive messages to friends.
Taking care with privacy and personal information
It’s a good idea to make sure your child knows not to communicate online with people she doesn’t know in person. This is particularly important if your child is using in-game social networks.
Encourage your child to:
- tell you if someone he doesn’t know contacts him online
- not give out personal information. You could say, ‘Some people online are fakers and cheats. Never tell anyone online your name, address, phone number or birthday’
- not enter personal information on gaming sites or competitions. You could ask your child to check with you before filling out any online competitions or memberships
- ask you before he uses a new app, so you can show him how to check the privacy settings to keep his personal information safe.
