Principal's Message - Mr Steve Thorne
Feast Day of Mary MacKillop
8 August
Loving God, when you created the world and all the people in it, you gave us a special person called Mary MacKillop. We thank you for her life and the example to live as Jesus did. We ask you to bless us and the needs we name.
- For all the people in the world who are suffering and without food and clothing,
we ask you through Mary MacKillop to send kind and generous people to help them.
Lord hear us. Response: Lord hear our prayer.
- God our Father we pray for families, help us all to love and care each other.
Lord hear us. Response: Lord hear our prayer.
- For all the people who are poor and have no one to love them, we ask that you help us all to find ways of giving our love and help to them in any way we can.
Lord hear us. Response: Lord hear our prayer
- God of friendship, we pray for all those children who are different from us and feel left out, give us courage to be a friend to them.
Lord hear us. Response: Lord hear our prayer.
Provider God, you gave us Mary MacKillop. She spent her life loving you and bringing your love to the poor children in Australia. She still works on through her Sisters of St Joseph and their Associates. We thank you God and pray that you will bless us so that we can follow her example.
We ask this in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Late Arrival
Parents are reminded that the morning bell goes at 8.50am. All students arriving after the gate is closed will be marked as a late arrival.
Sacramental Program
Parents of Year 3 and 6 students received information regarding the plan for the Sacramental programs this year. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, receiving the sacraments will look very different this year. Parents/Carers are reminded that the compulsory information evenings are scheduled for next week. As numbers are limited at each session, please refer to the letter and ensure you have booked in prior to attending.
Building Project
At the P & F Meeting last night I updated those present with the latest plans for the Primary building. Plans for the external façade are pretty much settled with the most significant change being the entrance to the building from the back playground.
Convent Crosses
When the Convent was demolished, the two copper crosses that were on the roof were salvaged. The plan is to have each of the one metre crosses cleaned up and used as a feature with one going into the new parish centre and the other into the school. If you, or someone you know, has the skills and the time to restore the crosses, we would love to hear from you. Please either email the school or call Louise on 4229 1818.

Teaching safe and responsible online behaviour
You can help your child learn how to use the internet safely, responsibly and enjoyably. If you teach your child how to manage internet safety risks and worrying experiences for herself, she’ll build digital resilience. This is the ability to deal with and respond positively to any risks she encounters online.
You can do this by:
- going online with your child
- talking with your child about online content
- being a good role model
- teaching your child to be careful with personal information
- teaching your child to avoid online purchases
- talking about appropriate online behaviour.

The Dewey Awards are back in 2020!
This is a great opportunity for our talented students to show their writing skills and produce their own ‘book’. Entries will be due by the end of Week 7, Term 3. There will be Highly Commended awards as well as a winner for the Infants and Primary categories.
It is not compulsory to participate in this competition. As such, there will not be time given at school to complete the entry. This must be done in their own time.
Some points to remember;
- Students can produce an entry on their own or in a pair.
- Maximum of two collaborators per entry including the illustrator.
- Each student may only enter once. This means that if the student chooses to enter as a pair, they can not additionally enter an individual entry.
- The book can be handwritten or typed. It can be as simple as a booklet of A4 pages stapled together, or can be more elaborate.
- If you have collaborated with your sibling across a stage the main author (or the first author’s name) will determine what category it is judged in - Infants or Primary.
- Entries must be original ideas.
Happy Reading and Writing!
Ms. Rose, Mrs. Hamilton and Mrs. Macdonald
