Principal's Message - Mr Steve Thorne
Welcome back
to Term 3!!
Feast Day of Saint Mary Magdalene
July 22
Saint Mary Magdalene life and role in the early Church has long been debated. She is recognised as a Saint in many Christian religions but there are differing views on her life particularly between Orthodox and the Western Christian Church. What we do know from the Bible, is that Mary Magdalene was a sinner who became one of the closest followers of Jesus. She remained with him during his final hours on Earth and was one of the three women who discovered his tomb empty. It was also to Mary Magdalene that Jesus first appeared after his resurrection where he asked her to announce to the Apostles that he had risen.
Saint Mary Magdalene
Woman of many sins, who by conversion
Became the beloved of Jesus,
Thank you for your witness
That Jesus forgives
Through the miracle of love.
You, who already possess eternal happiness
In His glorious presence,
Please intercede for me, so that some day
I may share in the same everlasting joy.
Amen
Welcome!!
This week we welcome three new students into our St Therese community:
Sophia (5B), Davis (5G) and his sister Dianna (KG).
We hope these students settled in quickly to their new surroundings and feel part of our wonderful community.
We also welcome back Mrs Kerrie Maidment who has been on leave throughout Term 2. As a staff we are happy to have Kerrie back and I am sure the Reading Recovery students and their families will be equally as excited.
NATIONALLY CONSISTENT COLLECTION OF DATA ON SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH DISABILITY (NCCD)
Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to provide de- identified information, already available in the school, about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2020).

Term 3
Personlised Planning Meetings
For those parents and carers who received an invitation for Term 3 Personlised Planning Meetings, the school interview portal will close on Friday 24 July 2020 at 2.00pm. If you have not booked and need assistance please contact the office on 42291818.

Late Arrival
Parents are reminded that the morning bell goes at 8.50am. All students arriving after the gate is closed will be marked as a late arrival.
Building Works
Demolition of the Convent was completed during the holidays. Next holidays (September), 6 demountable classrooms will be brought onto the site for Primary classes to move into. In the coming weeks, synthetic grass will be laid under the shade structures on the back playground and tiered seating / stairs will be installed off the back of the canteen verandah. While this is an exciting time of renewal for St Therese, these projects and the major Primary building renovation will present challenges and inconvenience at times. Adjustments to routines will need to be made to accommodate these works but student safety will always be at the forefront of all decisions.
Road Safety
Our school has been selected for the 2020 School Road Safety Fence Banner Program run by Wollongong City Council. This program aims to improve road safety around schools by reminding parents, carers and other drivers of the road rules within school zones.
The Council is committed to taking an active role in making roads safer and reducing the likelihood of deaths and injuries from road trauma through their commitment to the NSW Local Government Road Safety Program.
From this week you will notice the School Road Safety Fence Banner and the Look Out Before You Step Out corflute sign as reminders to students, parents, carers and teachers about road safety.
Attached is the flyer ‘Look Out, Before You Step Out’ for you to use with your children

Internet safety risks for school-age children
There are three main kinds of internet risks for children.
Content risks
For school-age children these risks include things that they might find upsetting, disgusting or otherwise uncomfortable, if they come across them accidentally. This might include pornography, images of cruelty to animals, and real or simulated violence.
Contact risks
These risks include children coming into contact with people they don’t know or with adults posing as children online. For example, a child might be persuaded to meet someone he doesn’t know, share personal information with strangers, or provide contact details after clicking on pop-up messages.
Conduct risks
These risks include children acting in ways that might hurt others, or being the victim of this kind of behaviour. For example, a child might destroy a game her friend or sibling has created. Another conduct risk is accidentally making in-app purchases.
