PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Have Faith in God
We are always told to have faith and to trust God. In certain situations, that is easier said than done. We sometimes think things will be easier if we take it into our own hands. Nobody ever said having faith would be easy, but it will be worth it and here is why.
- He Knows Better Than We Do
God knows everything we are going through at this very moment and everything we will go through in the future. He knows the best way to handle every situation so we get the best possible outcome and we need to trust him with that. We need to follow his path and trust that he knows best, because he does.
“But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.” – James 1:6
- All Things Are Possible With God
He knows the desires of your heart. If you trust in him with the things that you want most, he will take care of it. He knows what is best for your life. If you feel like your goals are hard to achieve or even impossible, think again. Anything is possible with God. He has your back and will help you through anything, all you have to do is have faith.
“‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” – Mark 9:23
During my leave, I was blessed to have completed a segment of the Comino through Spain. The Comino Frances covers a walking distance of 790kms however I only completed the final 116kms into Santiago de Compostella where the remains of St James, the Apostle, are believed to be within the 1000 year old Cathedral. I commenced this week-long trek with an open mind but not specifically seeking anything spiritual as many pilgrims do. As the days past, I was amazed at what I witnessed and at some of the people I met along the way. There were people in their 80s down to primary school aged children walking with their parents, there were teenage school groups giving up a week of their holidays to complete the walk, there were people recovering from illness through to people trying to find their place in this world. Most of the people we encountered were from Europe but also quite a lot of Americans. I feel, wherever the motivation to commence the walk, every person would be touched in some way. Spending time in the silence of your own thoughts and listening to the lived experiences of others, away from the hustle & bustle of our lives and technology, has to have some impact. At the end of the second day of walking (about 22kms) I was wondering whether I had made the right decision however during the Day 7 walk into Santiago de Compostella, there was a sense of achievement as well as a sense of disappointment that the walk was coming to an end.
Ultimately, we have so much to be grateful for but we don’t see it because we are too busy ‘coping’ with life. I have certainly been very guilty of this. My message, regardless of your stage of life, would be to stop from time to time - “smell the roses” (as our French guide said many times).

Staff Changes
At the end of last term, a number of staffing changes were required for a range of reasons. I thank Dimitra and the leadership team for acting so quickly to get these positions advertised so that we were able to interview during the holidays. Parents from individual grades have already been informed if their child’s class has been affected however below is a full list of all the staff changes:
- Mrs Ceren Crane will replace Mark Bunder on 6 Blue for the remainder of the year. Mark will still be available for casual work from time to time.
- Mrs Theresa Freeman will replace Kirra Calvert on 4 Blue for the remainder of the year. Kirra has decided to take some time to focus more on family.
- Miss Kristen Turvey will replace Stephanie Shalala on Kinder Blue for the remainder of the year. As announced earlier, Steph has been appointed to a permanent teaching position at St Brigid’s, Gwynneville.
- Mrs Jessica Glasson will replace Ashleigh McLachlan as a job share position on 2 Gold for the remainder of the year. Jessica will share the class with Maree Timpano.
- Mrs Stacey Martinoski will replace Carol Hiscox teaching Social Emotional Learning and Health while Carol is on Long Service Leave this term.
NAPLAN Student Reports
Students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9 participated in the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) during Term 1. A NAPLAN individual student report will be sent home today.
NAPLAN results are reported against proficiency standards. There is a standard for each assessment area at each year level. Proficiency standards provide clear information on student achievement. Student achievement is shown against 4 levels of proficiency:
- Exceeding: the student’s result exceeds expectations at the time of testing.
- Strong: the student’s result meets challenging but reasonable expectations at the time of testing.
- Developing: the student’s result indicates that they are working towards expectations at the time of testing.
- Needs additional support: the student’s result indicates that they are not achieving the learning outcomes that are expected at the time of testing. They are likely to need additional support to progress satisfactorily.
Class Assemblies
Class assemblies are an opportunity for students to showcase some of the great things that are happening in their classroom for their parents and the other classes across the school. Some grades have opted to work together and will therefore present 2 assemblies over the course of the year. In other cases, classes will present alone which will be one assembly each. Assemblies will be in the hall commencing at 2.10pm. Parents are welcome to attend any of these assemblies.
Term3, class assemblies will be:
- Week 2 (Friday, 2 August) - Year 2 Blue
- Week 3 (Friday, 9 August) - Year 5 Blue
- Week 4 (Friday, 16 August) - Year 6 Gold
- Week 6 (Friday, 30 August) - Year 3 Blue
- Week 7 (Friday, 6 September) - Year 2 Gold
- Week 8 (Friday, 13 September) - Kindergarten

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on Students with Disability (NCCD). Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to provide de-identified information, already available in the school, about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines.
