PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE - MR STEVE THORNE
Newsletter Week 10
Easter Prayer
Heavenly Father,
During this blessed Easter, we come before you with hearts full of gratitude and joy. We rejoice in the resurrection of your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. As we gather with loved ones and fellow believers, we are reminded of the glorious victory over sin and death that He accomplished on the cross.
Lord, we thank you for the promise of new life and the hope that Easter brings. Your mercy and grace shine brightly on this day, illuminating our lives with the warmth of your love. May we never forget the incredible sacrifice of Jesus and the profound significance of His triumph over the grave.
During this sacred time, fill our hearts with the joy of the resurrection. Help us to experience the transformative power of your love, renewing our spirits and strengthening our faith. As we celebrate together, may the message of Easter resonate deeply within us, inspiring us to live as reflections of your grace and compassion.
As we rejoice in the miracle of Easter, we lift our prayers for those who may be struggling, lonely, or in despair. May your comforting presence be with them, bringing healing and hope. Use us, Lord, as instruments of your peace and vessels of your love in the world.
We dedicate this Easter to you, grateful for the promise of redemption and the assurance of your unfailing love. May our lives be a testament to the power of your resurrection as we seek to follow you faithfully.
In the precious name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
Bearers of Christ’s Love
As mentioned previously, the key aspects of the Bishop Brian’s Charter will be included in the newsletter. Today we continue with the next 3 points relating to Catholic schools in the Diocese of Wollongong:
- Recognise the integral connection between schools and parishes and so develop relationships of active collaboration between schools, parish clergy and the wider Catholic community. They actively seek to develop students’ and families’ involvement in the life of the parish, especially that of Sunday Eucharist.
- Give priority of enrolment to Catholics to develop and maintain a ‘critical mass’ of those active in the Catholic faith within our student community. We also welcome practising Christians, and those of other faiths, who wish to receive a Catholic education with the understanding that they will respect and support the Catholic ethos of our schools.
- Give priority of employment and promotion to practising Catholics, practising Christians, and those practising other faiths. In order to develop and maintain a ‘critical mass’ of active faith, to ensure authentic Catholic identity within staff communities.
SPARKING LIFE VISITS ST THERESE WEST WOLLONGONG
Sparking Life is a non-profit organisation involved in organ and tissue donation awareness and has affiliated with Lifeblood. The mission of Sparking Life is to create awareness of the real need many people face daily to maintain their health.
Recently, Sparking Life presented to the staff at St Therese. The aim of this presentation was to encourage staff members to register and to donate either blood or plasma to assist the many people in need of donated blood and blood products each and every day.
Thank you to the staff members who have already acted on this and both registered and donated at the Donor Centre in Kembla Street Wollongong. St Therese is already on the way to saving lives of people in our community. This number will continue to grow as more staff members come on board. I’d like to sincerely thank the staff for their support of Sparking Life. It has been wonderful to witness such acts of kindness assisting those in need.
Sparking Life will be extending an invitation to parents and friends to participate in this presentation during the next P & F meeting at 7:00pm on Tuesday 30 April 2024. You are most welcome to come along to hear how parents and friends can also become involved in this endeavour.
Safety Tips for Parents/Carers - Accessing appropriate content on i0S devices
How to build digital intelligence
Parents and caregivers hold significant roles in fostering children's digital intelligence, encompassing social, emotional, and practical competencies essential for effectively maneuvering through the digital realm.
Even with Kindergaten and pre-Kindergarten, it's never premature to cultivate positive habits. As children mature, it remains beneficial to continually reinforce fundamental digital intelligence tenets: respect, empathy, critical thinking, responsible conduct, and resilience. These principles also serve as valuable points of emphasis when addressing challenges or missteps with your child.
Promote respectful communication online by encouraging positive manners and behaviours similar to offline interactions. Teach your child to avoid negative messages and report any unpleasant encounters. Foster empathy by helping them understand diverse perspectives and emotions. Encourage critical thinking to discern misleading content and question online interactions. Emphasize safe and responsible behaviour, setting boundaries for device use and safeguarding personal information. Build resilience by supporting your child through negative online experiences, teaching them to manage friendships and navigate challenges confidently.
Communication Safety on your child's Apple device
Communication Safety is a feature designed to protect children from sending or receiving photos or videos containing nudity. If such content is detected, the feature blurs the image or video before the child can view it. It also offers guidance and resources to help them make safe choices, including contacting a trusted person. This system employs on-device machine learning to analyse attachments for nudity, ensuring privacy as the analysis is done locally and not shared with Apple. To ensure synchronisation of Communication Safety settings across devices, all devices in the Family Sharing group need to be updated to the latest software version.
