PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE - MR STEVE THORNE
Newsletter Week 2
Pope Francis' Message for
World Mission Sunday
22 October, 2023
“Hearts on Fire, Feet on the Move" (Luke 24:13-35)
So let us set out once more, illumined by our encounter with the risen Lord and prompted by his Spirit.
Let us set out again with burning hearts, with our eyes open and our feet in motion.
Let us set out to make other hearts burn with the word of God, to open the eyes of others to Jesus in the Eucharist, and to invite everyone to walk together on the path of peace and salvation that God, in Christ, has bestowed upon all humanity.
Fete - Thank You
Yesterday a final fete flyer was sent from Andrew Thornberry to wrap up what was a truly magnificent day. Profits aside, there was a huge sense of community and the kids (and many, many past students) had heaps of fun. We had parents helping whose children literally had on;ly been in the school for one week through to parents whose child is now in Year 7. There were grandparents helping out and family friends. We had some Edmund Rice students volunteering to gain some CSL hours. We had helpers here on Saturday for about 4 hours and then those packing up after the fete through to about 6pm.
I spoke to the children on Monday about the incredible transformation that took place. The school on Friday afternoon and Monday morning looked the same … however, it was a sea of colour and a buzz of activity inbetween!
Andrew Thornberry thanked many people in the final fete newsletter however, a huge thank you must go to Andrew for his organisation and dedication of time to bring this whole day together - and I know that it’s not like he has heaps of spare time anyway! Andrew was well supported by a small but very generous committee who also did the hard yards over the last few months.
While it’s time to reflect and rest up, mark October 2025 in your calendars when we can do it all again!!
Kinder 2024 Playgroup Sessions
Scary, but we are starting our Kinder 2023 playgroup sessions next week. Sessions will run for 4 consecutive Wednesdays and parents are welcome to come along to any of the sessions they choose.
- Session One: 9.15am - 10.45am
- Session Two: 12.00pm - 1.30pm
Classes 2024
As usual at this time of the year, parents are invited to communicate with me if they have any concerns regarding their child’s learning in 2024. This is not an opportunity to pick and choose your child’s teacher but a time where you can let me know about your child’s learning style, friendship issues, etc. Ultimately there are many variables which impact class placement and we can only split students into one of two classes. While I will take onboard parental concerns, I cannot guarantee all requests will be met. Communication from parents must be received by Friday, 3 November.
Diocesan Sport Representative Pathway Nominations
A Compass alert was sent to all Year 4 & 5 families last week regarding the Representative Sport Pathway Program for 2024. Generally speaking, students are required to be in Years 5 or 6 (2024) due to the level of competition for inclusion. If a student who is currently Year 3 but competing in their sport within a much higher age group, please contact me to discuss. All nominations are required by 27 October.
Congratulations Darcy M-W (1G)
Last week, Darcy was invited to the Annual Deadly Awards where he received the Encouragement Award for his imaginative creative writing. Well done Darcy, we are all very proud of you.
Congratulation Slave & Jelica
During the holidays both Slave & Jelica Tomeski were presented with Long Service Awards for over 20 years of Dedicated Service to the People of NSW. This is a wonderful achievement and its great to see it recognised in such a formal way.
