PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE - MR STEVE THORNE
Newsletter Week 10
St Therese Feast Day
1 October
“Miss no single opportunity of making some small sacrifice,
here by a smiling look, there by a kindly word;
always doing the smallest right and doing it all for love.”
St Therese was a deeply hidden treasure in her time. Everything she did was intentional and always with love. What if we stopped in our busyness of each day and made eye contact with a stranger? It’s true that a simple, but genuine smile can uplift someone’s drooping spirits. Kindness, of course, costs us nothing and often sends on its wings the spiritual charism of encouragement. Take time today to encourage someone through simple gestures - a note, a thank you, a wave or “hello”.
Before School OOSH
After the survey conducted a few weeks ago by Catholicare, it has been deemed that there is insufficient commitment to re-establish the before school care service at this stage. With the numbers indicated in the survey, operating the service would not be financially viable.
Day of the Notables
Well done Year 5 who today presented their work on Notable people. This is always an exciting which gives the students an opportunity to display the learning they have done throughout the term. This morning I heard students from a number of grades commenting on how good it was to go and see the displays Year 5 set up.
Grandparents / St Therese Liturgy
Tomorrow we look forward to again having lots of visitors to our school. This is always an exciting day as after the liturgy, students will have the opportunity to show their grandparents their classrooms and the work that they are proud to show off.
Holiday Wishes
This term has been very full on with lots of things happening across the school. The extreme weather over the past 3 days have been the icing on the cake to really challenge the student (and staff) energy levels. This upcoming break will be a great time to renew and refresh, ready for the challenges of Term 4.
Congratulations
Genova D (6G) & Andraws (6G) were selected as finalists for the Diocesan Christmas Art Competition. Both their works will now be displayed in the Wollongong Art Gallery
Physical Culture Competition
Last weekend Annabelle C (3B) competed in the Wollongong District zone competition. The Wollongong district zone area extends from Helensburgh down to the ACT border. Annabelle placed third and has now qualified to compete in the national junior finals (9 year age category Champion Girl). This will be held at Sydney Olympic Park at the end of November 2023. Congratulations Annabelle!
Congratulations
Abby B (6B), Phoebe A (5G) and Alexis M (5B) won their Netball Under 11C Grand Final on the weekend. They finished the regular season in first place and then came out with a grand final win. It was a nail biting draw with extra time but Team Supreme won 23-20. Awesome achievement girls!
Congratulations
Justin V (6B) was part of a grand final winning tennis team on the weekend. Justin is a quiet achiever in his sport for which he has represented the Diocese of Wollongong. Well done Justin on another awesome achievement!
Congratulations
Congratulations Alara H (6G), Ted T (4B) and Tahlia C (2G) who all competed in the Grand Finals for their respective Basketball competitions. The great news is that all three won!! It’s great to see so many of our students doing well at their chosen sports!

Growing Good Men: Father and Teenage Son Weekend Experience
20 - 22 October 2023, Cataract Scout Camp, Appin
One of the most important influences in the lives of men is the relationship they had with their father or significant father figure. The encouragement and affirmation that this relationship could, and should, provide is a key ingredient for how young men view themselves and embrace their gifts as they take their place in the world.
Don’t miss this life-changing father and son weekend! Spots are limited to just 25 fathers with their sons aged between 12 and 16 years. This is a unique opportunity for dads and their sons to embark on a quest of discovery with Robert Falzon and the team from menALIVE. Register here.
