PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE - MR STEVE THORNE
Newsletter Week 7
Prayer written by St Therese representatives who attended the Wollongong Environmental Network (WEN) day earlier in the year.

Mrs Maidment
Thank you for all the concern and well wishes for Kerrie. At this stage, Kerrie is still in intensive care at Prince of Wales Hospital. There has been some improvement over the course of the past week however it will be a long road to recovery. Please keep Kerrie and her family in your thoughts and prayers.
Fathers’ Day Sausage Sizzle / Prayer / Open Classrooms
We are looking forward to welcoming fathers and father figures into our school tomorrow. The sausage sizzle will start from 7.30am. Dads will also be able to grab a coffee form the coffee van to help kick start their day. Feel free to have a game of handball or check out our new playground space. Classrooms will also be open after the assembly if you are able to stay a little longer.
Congratulations Lewis McL & Hunter P (Yr 6)
Last week, Lewis & Hunter attended the four day State Rugby Union trials in Camden. Out of the 13 teams, their team (Mackillop) finished fourth - a fantastic achievement! At the conclusion of the carnival, Lewis was named in the NSW State Team. He will now compete at the next level being held at The Kings School in Sydney on 16 & 17 September. Needless to say, this is an awesome achievement and we wish Lewis all the best.
Paul Kelly Cup Finalists
Congratulations to our 13 Stage 3 girls who represented St Therese yesterday at the State Final of the Paul Kelly Cup. To reach this level, the girls had to win through two previous regional finals which they did so convincingly. The girls won two of their three games which put them equal leaders in their pool however a lower percentage meant that they missed out on a semi-final spot. The girls should be extremely proud of their achievements in a sport that most had not encountered before this year. Thanks to the support parents have shown along the way with trips to both Ulladulla and Sydney.

"Take It Down" Platform - Preventing the Unwanted Spread of Intimate Child Images Online.
A powerful new tool has emerged to safeguard the online privacy of young people who have unwillingly or unknowingly shared intimate images or videos of themselves with malicious recipients.
The Take It Down platform empowers individuals under the age of 18, regardless of their location, to remove or prevent the online sharing of nude, partially nude, or sexually explicit images or videos taken of them.
This service is provided anonymously and does not require the uploading of any images or videos to the platform's system.
Take It Down sends a unique fingerprint of the intimate content to their participating social media/content distribution platforms who use the fingerprint to block the content.
The participating platforms include Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Pornhub, OnlyFans, Clips4Sale and Yubo.
Instances of image-based abuse can also be reported to eSafety or the police.
Please feel free to share this information with your school community and through your newsletter.
The eSafety Commission website has resources to help parents and carers be positive role models and online safety advocates.

National Child Protection Week
Next week, 3 - 9 September 2023, is National Child Protection Week.
The purpose of Child Protection Week is to engage, educate and empower Australians to understand the complexities of child abuse and neglect and work together to prevent it. At Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong (CEDoW) our unwavering commitment to child safety is evidence of our Living Catholicity and sits at the heart of everything we do.
The frequency and complexity of concerns related to child abuse and neglect are increasing.
During Child Protection Week, we want you to know that what you are doing is making a difference to students in your school. We know you are having difficult conversations with parents, and that you ‘go above and beyond’ to provide extra support to students in need. We see the efforts you are making to keep students safe and we thank you for your commitment, kindness and courage.
If you can spare 5 minutes, please watch Josh Shipp’s powerful message, “The Power of One Caring Adult.” Please be aware that the subject matter may be confronting.
The CEDoW Child Safety and Professional Services team, known as CEDoW Child Protection, is available for all school staff, to walk with you in the recognition, response and reporting of child safety concerns. We can:
- help talk through concerns,
- provide advice on responding,
- ensure external reporting commitments are met; and
- share some of the administrative burden.
We call this ‘sharing the risk’ with schools, and we hope that it will both lighten your load and lead to better outcomes for students and families.
The theme for 2023 Child Protection Week is 'where we start matters'. CEDoW Child Protection wanted to start by thanking you and your staff.
Action: As a small token of our acknowledgement and appreciation, all staff will receive a 2023 CEDoW Child Protection Week bookmark. These bookmarks will be distributed directly to principals at the Colloquium Day on Wednesday 30 August 2023. If your school is not attending the Colloquium, a member of the CEDoW Child Protection team will deliver the bookmarks to your school. Additionally, a brief thank you video from the CEDoW Child Protection team will be featured in the all staff Gateway News edition during Child Protection Week.
MATHS
For extended leave for holidays, parents are asked to complete an ‘Application for Exemption from Attendance at School’ form. This is available from the office.
Growing Good Men: Father and Teenage Son Weekend Experience
20 - 22 October 2023, Cataract Scout Camp, Appin
One of the most important influences in the lives of men is the relationship they had with their father or significant father figure. The encouragement and affirmation that this relationship could, and should, provide is a key ingredient for how young men view themselves and embrace their gifts as they take their place in the world.
Don’t miss this life-changing father and son weekend! Spots are limited to just 25 fathers with their sons aged between 12 and 16 years. This is a unique opportunity for dads and their sons to embark on a quest of discovery with Robert Falzon and the team from menALIVE. Register here.
