St Bartholomew (Apostle) Feast Day
August 24
A Prayer to St. Bartholomew the Apostle, for Courage
O Jesus, Saint Bartholomew's greatest desire was to know the truth. When first informed about You, his initial reaction was, "How can anything good come from Nazareth?" But as soon as he met You, he wanted to become one of Your disciples. You said of him, "Here is a man in whom there is no deception." I ask him to pray against the deceptions that are influencing me and the people I know. Help us to experience Your affirmation when we are honest, give us courage to resist lying as a means of self-protection, and inspire our minds to recognize the truth when we hear it. Saint Bartholomew, pray for us. Amen.

First Reconciliation
This week, many of our Year 3 students have joined with other children from both St Therese Parish and Immaculate Conception Parish, Unanderra to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. This is a significant step in their faith journey and one that many of us can relate to albeit many years ago. Please keep these children and their families in your prayers.
Book Week Celebration
Excitement is building among students for what should be a great day on Friday with our Book Week Character Parade. Originally set down for 9.30am, we have moved this forward to start as close to 9am as possible (moving nearly 400 book characters into position sometimes can take a little while!). Friday’s weather is looking great so we will be setting up on the back playground.
Fathers’ Day Sausage Sizzle
We invite fathers and father figures to join us on Thursday, August 31 from 7.30am for a sausage sizzle as well as some time in the playground before we have a special prayer/blessing led by Year 6 at our morning assembly (8.40am). There will then be an opportunity to visit classrooms for 30-40 mins.
Winter Uniform
Reminder to parents that we are still in Winter uniform. As in previous years, we will have a transition period back into Summer uniform during the last few weeks of term. Timing of this will be conveyed through the newsletter and students informed at assemblies.
Congratulations Amari (6G) & Lenny (4G)
Last Sunday, Amari and Lenny had a great day walking the City2Surf dressed up as a herd of cows raising funds for the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation in memory of their cousin Sophie. The generous donations received from the St Therese community were matched by a company, which meant Amari & Lenny raised over $500 EACH. Thanks to the amazing support and generosity of all who have donated, Sophie’s Run raised over $18,000 this year. Starting the walk as a “Superstar Charity”, we had many people wanting photos, lots of cheers and moo’s along the road, and Amari and Lenny found themselves on many news channel highlights that night and were even interviewed. A great day was had.
Good Luck!
Next Tuesday, our squad of 13 girls from Yrs 5 & 6 will compete in the Paul Kelly Cup State Final being held at Giants Stadium, Homebush. This is an awesome experience for the girls who are super excited to have made it this far.
