PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE - MR STEVE THORNE
Newsletter Week 6
National Sorry Day
Friday, 26 May
Loving Creator, we acknowledge that we are all made in your image and called to live
in harmony with one another.
Yet, as a nation we have fallen short of this calling, and
ask for your guidance and wisdom to enable us to become agents of change in the
pursuit of reconciliation with one another.
We pray for the courage to speak up for the marginalized and oppressed, and to be a
voice for the generations that have suffered under the weight of racism and
discrimination.
May your love and grace inspire us to take action towards healing and
reconciliation, and to work towards a future where all are treated with dignity and
respect.
Help us to listen to the voices of those who have been silenced for too long, and to
work together to see restoration and healing.
May we be guided by your love and grace, and may our actions be a reflection of your
goodness.
May your Holy Spirit guide us towards a future where love, mercy, and compassion
reign.
We pray for your hand to be upon us as we work towards reconciliation, and we
entrust our efforts into your hands.
We make our prayer in Jesus’ name.
All: Amen.
Staff Development Day
As previously advised, Tuesday June 13 is a pupil free day. Staff will be focusing on developing Numeracy in their classrooms.
Winter Uniform
With colder days now upon us, all students should have moved into their Winter uniform this week. The sports uniform remains unchanged however tracksuit pants and a long sleeve yellow shirt are warmer options. The Winter uniform includes a tie, tab-tie for girls, and long sleeve shirts tucked in.
Congratulations Adriana C (Yr 6B)
Last Friday, Adriana travelled to Canberra to compete for a position in the Mackillop Football (Soccer) team. This trial brought together the very best players from the southern half of NSW. Adriana made it through to the final game of Possibles vs Probables and was very unlucky not to have been chosen in the final team. As always, Adriana was a fantastic representative for both our school and diocese.
Student Injuries
Please be aware that schools must adhere to Diocesan Health & Safety Guidelines for the safety and wellbeing of all students. Therefore, if your child sustains a significant injury (such as a fracture, serious sprain), we need to receive a medical clearance that states any conditions / limitations before the child can return to school. This clearance should be asked for by the parents at the time of initial medical treatment.

Changes to English and Mathematics K-2 Curriculum
Curriculum is at the core of quality teaching and learning. It is important to communicate with parents, carers and the community about the teaching and learning that is happening in your school. This engagement will assist schools in identifying strategic directions, decide on improvement measures and assess their progress which can lead to improved learning outcomes for students.
What is curriculum?
The curriculum is a plan for learning based on mandated and approved syllabus documents and current departmental policies and procedures.
The NSW curriculum refers to the suite of resources that are the syllabuses and the support resources to support teachers to implement the syllabuses. This includes, but is not limited to, resources including teaching and learning advice, assessment resources, and syllabus-specific materials including scope and sequences, units of work, standards materials and work samples.
What is curriculum reform?
The NSW Curriculum Reform aims to strengthen and streamline what is taught in schools. The curriculum reform is an opportunity to engage and re energise what we teach and how we teach it. It focuses on making clear what is essential in the curriculum to give more time for deep learning, establish stronger foundations in English and mathematics, and provide stronger links between HSC subjects and career pathways.
English and Mathematics
In 2023 new Syllabus documents in English and Mathematics are being implemented in schools in Kindergarten through to Year 2.
The new syllabuses emphasise key concepts, identify essential knowledge and skills, and include new outcomes to clearly show what is essential. They remove ambiguity for all users. Clear and concise language in the outcomes and content help you to understand the learning expectations for building foundational skills in English and Mathematics. The new Digital Curriculum means the syllabuses will be easier to access and navigate, so users can find information more efficiently. Access content points are provided to indicate content that students with significant intellectual disability may access. Teaching samples and examples are easy to find and use. Teaching advice is a supporting guide that was refined through engagement and consultation activities with teachers.
