PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE - MR STEVE THORNE
Newsletter Week 11
Wednesday of Holy Week
Have you ever been betrayed by someone? It can be the most damaging of experiences. There can be a myriad of emotions - shame, anger, hurt and resentment. We feel guttered at the core of our being. Our relationship with the person who betrayed us is often destroyed, the trust we once had is broken.
What is our response to such betrayal? Our natural inclination may be to attack; to lash out in anger or even vengence. We may try to ‘get back’ at the person, repaying like for like. However, is this the best response, the response of a disciple.
Jesus does not lash out, or try to and take vengeance, but rather offers a dignified silence to his attackers.
Our strength to take this approach can only come through a deep relationship with God, one that listens, learns and remains close to him in love. In developing our relationship with God, we find God’s own strength to face the immense hurt of betrayal. It was Jesus’ deep relationship with his Father that allowed him to ‘set his face like flint’ (Is 50:7), trusting in the Father’s ultimate vindication through the resurrection.
Father, may we too stand strong and confident,
trusting in you in the face of betrayal.
Amen
Easter Wishes
From a school perspective, I know of the tremendous time and effort staff have contributed to making Term 1 a success. We are regularly faced with challenges but we always seem to have someone who steps in to to deal with the next ‘event / challenge’. I sincerely thank our staff for all their hard work and wish them a very relaxing and refreshing Pupil Vacation period. While some will manage to get away for a few days, I also know that a lot of planning and preparation for Term 2 will also be taking place.
I also wish all of our students and their families a happy and holy Easter and that you all find time (whether it be just the long weekend or a few days longer) to connect as a family without the stressors of work / school … & screens! For those lucky enough to be travelling, have a great time and return safely.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS/CARERS
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Mark Taylor Shield Cricket
Congratulations to all the students who represented St Therese in the Mark Taylor Shield cricket game against St Pius X Unanderra yesterday.
In an exciting and close game, both teams played with enthusiasm and commitment. Unfortunately , we were defeated by St Pius X.
In their first innings SPX totalled 122 runs.Special attention must go to Harper Smith who bowled beautifully to end up with the figures of 3 wickets for 4 runs. Some spirited bowling by SPX kept over batters searching for runs.
Eventually we were all out for 99 runs. JAcob Testa (19 runs) and Brock Smith (20 runs) kept in the game.
For a team with limited experience it was a fantastic effort.
Thankyou to all the parents and grandparents who came along to support the team, especially to those who volunteered their services to score.
School Cross Country
What a great day this turned out to be. Colour, music, dancing, great course and running. The school was once again, a real buzz which was great to witness. Thanks to Mr Timpano for running the event and our special guest, DJ Hogan, who provided the entertainment. A team will be notified this week who will then compete at the Diocesan Carnival on Tuesday, 2 May (Week 2).
