PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE - MR STEVE THORNE
Newsletter Week 10
Wednesday, Fifth Week of Lent
God’s Word cuts through the lies that try to enslave us in so many different ways. By meditating on and memorising lines from Scripture, we can truly make our “home” in them. God’s Word becomes the rock of our lives, setting us free from fear and confusion. After a while, we notice that they are the first words that come to mind in good times and bad. A young family recently recounted that during a traumatic moment in hospital during the birth of their son, they instinctively started praying the rosary. Unable to even speak to each other, they found peace by clinging to the promises of God in the simple words of the Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be.
Lord Jesus,
please come and dwell in our minds and hearts.
Turn our attention to your Word and make us truly free.
Amen

Cross Country
As per the Compass notification earlier today, the Cross Country will now be held this Friday. Please see the alert for further details. After this carnival, a school team will be announced to represent St Therese at the Diocesan Carnival in Nowra on May 2.
Holy Week Liturgy
Our next community event will be when we gather for our Holy Week liturgy on Thursday, 6 April at 9.30am. Parents are invited to join us in the church for this more sombre recount of the last days of Jesus. This marks the most important of times in the Church’s calendar.
End of Term Awards
After the Holy Week liturgy, parents and visitors are invited to the hall for a morning tea followed by our End of Term Awards.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Harmony Day
Huge thank you to Mrs Johannson and her committee who put together today’s Harmony Week celebration. The colour, costumes, song, dance, languages all came together in a very memorable event. We are blessed to live in such a harmonious, multicultural community which certainly wasn’t the case when I was a student at St Therese.
Harmony Day Video
"Absolutely Everybody" by Vanessa Amorosi was the obvious pick for our Harmony Day video this year. The difference this year was that our choir sang the song as the backing track for the school video, so you might be able to recognise a voice or two! Every grade in the school has contributed to make this video and share the message of Harmony Day - "Everyone Belongs". Our school motto of 'Love Can Do All Things" reinforces this message. Please enjoy!
Thank you to Mrs Cameron for editing the video and to all of the children for doing their bit.

WEN DAY
Wollongong Environment Day (WEN) - 24th March, 2023
Last Friday 4 representatives, Amari, Jamie, Dom and Ben, with Mrs McGoldrick, went to Rosemeadow for a day of learning about our environment. We were learning how to take care of our world, God’s Creation. We learnt how we are never too young to make a difference and we can begin by doing good things to the environment at our school and home. We were given the letter by Pope Francis, Laudato Si, which outlines the way we should care for our common home.
Our favourite things to do on the day were making a tote bag from an old t-shirt and watching Amari do a penguin walk. We were told the story about how penguins are one of the animals suffering and getting closer to extinction because of the plastics in our oceans. One of the simplest ways to help the penguins and our earth is to reduce the use of plastics.
We look forward to promoting some ideas in our own school environment.
