REMEMBRANCE DAY
Kinder Orientation
Our liturgy and meeting this morning was very successful with only a few tears. Overall, the Kinders were very excited to be here and I’m sure they will settle in very well.
Blessing & Opening
After the disco and orientation, we now move on to the next ‘Big Thing’ which is the Blessing & Opening of the Primary building next Friday, 18 November. This will be celebrated by Bishop Brian starting at 10am. There are many invited guests including politicians, architects, builders, past (& neighbouring) Principals to name a few. Parents are also welcome to attend.
Out Of School Hours Care (OOSH) Survey
Yesterday a survey was sent to all families regarding Before School Care. This service was closed at the end of Term 2 as it wasn’t financially sustainable. The aim has always been to reinstate this service if we can get enough support. Could you please complete the survey by next Wednesday so that we can take the data back to Catholic Care so that an informed decision can be made.
Public Speaking
Genova (5B) and Aiden (6B) represented St Therese and the coastal Catholic schools in the diocesan final of the Public Speaking Competition in Bowral on Monday. Both students presented very well and scored very highly. Congratulations to both but in particular Aiden who came away with a third place. We are very proud of Aiden and Genova and know that the skills they have and the experience received will go a long way to develop their confidence in so many ways.
Disco
Last Friday we held two very successful discos, one for K-2, the other 3-6. Students had a great time and behaved very well. Thanks to DJ Edwards for providing great music and keeping the tempo up all night. Thanks also to the parent volunteers who we rely on to make the evening successful.
Grill’d
St Therese features as one of the charities this month at Grill’d, Wollongong. If you are planning a night at Grill’d, please support us.
P & F Bunnings BBQ - December 3
It was confirmed yesterday that our P & F will be running the BBQ at the Wollongong store on Saturday, 3 December. With the store closing early next year, this will be our last opportunity to embrace this fundraising opportunity. With the last BBQ only a short time ago, it would be great to see a lot of new volunteers to support this event. Organisation and preparation has all be organised, we just need volunteers for an hour or two throughout the day to cook or serve. This is a very social event as we aim to have 4 or 5 parents at least at any one time.
Sport
Diocesan trials were held in a number of sports over the past two days. Congratulations to the following students who were all successful in gaining selection in diocesan teams to compete in 2023:
- Alara Hosgorur - Basketball
- Justin Velosa - Tennis
- Amari Ferns - Cricket

EDcycle and NUDE Food Day
This week is International REcycling Week and yesterday we introduced REDcycle.
RED Group is a Melbourne-based consulting and recycling organisation who has developed and implemented the REDcycle Program; a recovery initiative for post-consumer soft plastic.
REDcycle has teamed up with Coles, Woolworths and some of Australia’s most-loved brands to make it easy for you to keep your plastic bags and soft plastic packaging out of landfill.
The REDcycle Program is a true product stewardship model where manufacturers, retailers and consumers are sharing responsibility in creating a sustainable future.
Any soft plastic that can be scrunched is considered as REDcycle; chip packets, lollie wrappers, clip lock bags and Teddy Bear biscuits packs are a few examples. The image shows some examples.
On the playground we have a white free standing bag which has been designated for the soft plastics.
