Feast Day of St Therese
‘The Little Flower’
October 1
Monday’s Staff Development Day
Monday was a very busy day for all staff at St Therese. Teachers working in the Primary building worked tirelessly getting the classrooms set up ready for the students’ return. This was the first day that they had access to do any of this preparation. Kinder to Year 2 teachers had a very productive day focusing on the use of iPads in the younger classes. Accessing CEO Professional Development opened their eyes to the potential of what can be achieved and how iPads can inspire students to do better. Our School Support Officers generally completed a combination of iPad development, assisting teachers and helping in the library.
Staff Development (Pupil Free) Day - Monday, 7 November
As notified previously, an additional Staff Development Day will be on Monday, 7 November. The focus of this day is to bring together much of the work covered on Reading over the past year and developing an Agreed Practice among teachers that will bring consistency in the teaching of reading across the school.
New Building
I hope there was a buzz of excitement in the air, especially from students in Years 3 to 6, when they arrived home yesterday. It was with much excitement that the long awaited move into the new learning spaces finally happened!! Teachers and students alike were like kids on Christmas morning as they entered the building to see the changes and all the new furniture. With the wet weather over the holidays, the building wasn’t quite where we would have liked it to have been with some minor finishing touches yet to occur and quite a bit of external work still occurring. Parents can be assured that the building is very safe and the children have a great learning environment. There will be an opportunity for parents to come and visit in the next few weeks - hopefully after our grandparents Mass on Friday, 28 October.
Kinder 2023 Playgroup Sessions
Scary, but we are starting our Kinder 2023 playgroup sessions tomorrow. Sessions will run for 4 consecutive Th
- Session One: 30 - 11am
- Session Two: 12pm - 1.30pm
Teachers for Kinder in 2023 will be Mrs Gail Crane and Mrs Dominique Hogarth. Both Gail and Dom will be present at all the playgroup sessions which provides a great forum for getting to know the children in a relaxed and playful way.
Classes 2023
As usual at this time of the year, parents are invited to communicate with me if they have any concerns regarding their child’s learning in 2023. This is not an opportunity to pick and choose your child’s teacher but a time where you can let me know about your child’s learning style, friendship issues, etc. Ultimately there are many variables which impact class placement and we can only split students into one of two classes. While I will take onboard parental concerns, I cannot guarantee all requests will be met. Communication from parents must be received by Friday, 4 November.
Kiss & Collect
Yesterday afternoon, traffic was banked up once again on Powell St well past the Woodlawn Ave intersection - maybe it was a one-off as parents had missed their children after the holiday period. Please be reminded that the Kiss and Collect gates will not open until 2.45pm. Prior to this time, drivers can be fined for stopping traffic on a roadway.
Congratulations - exciting news
