Principal's Message - Mr Steve Thorne
Newsletter Week 8
Staffing Change
After interviewing for a Year 4 Long Service Leave replacement, a decision was made to change the plans that we had made for Kinder Gold. The replacement teachers we have employed were better suited by switching them around as follows:
- Miss Mary Panozzo will commence Long Service Leave from next Monday. Teaching 4 Blue for the remainder of the year will be Mrs Diann Sharman on Mondays and Thursdays with Mrs Stephanie Milner on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Diann and Steph are well known to each other and have already started planning for the rest of the year.
- Mrs Adele Walsh will finish up at the end of this term. Adele will be replaced by Miss Cassie Lord. Cassie is an experienced Kindergarten teacher who has teaching experience in England and Sydney. Cassie has just recently moved back to the Wollongong area. Over the next two weeks, Cassie will be engaged in some casual teaching days at St Therese so that she will become familiar with our school and students. Cassie and Adele will also be provided some planning time.
Grandparents’ Mass / End of Term Awards Assembly
As notified via Compass earlier today, the decision has been made to postponed this special Mass and Awards Assembly until early next term. Delayed building works and preparations for considerable movement around the school has led to this decision.
Bunnings BBQ
As per the message yesterday, volunteers are urgently needed to donate an hour or two at the Bunnings BBQ. All the organisation and co-ordination has been done. All we require is your gift of time to either cook or serve. This is a great opportunity, especially for new parents to the school this year, to meet and get to know some of the other families. Please let Louise know if you can assist by calling 4229 1818.
Fathers’ Day Stall
The Fathers’ Day Stall from last Thursday was a huge success. Over 450 gifts were sold on the day which is a huge credit to the organisers. Not only were gifts purchased over the preceding months, they were all wrapped in cellophane and tied with black bows. All students were very impressed as they entered the hall and the excitement was obvious. Thanks especially to Michelle Ristov, Christina Anastasiadis and Dani Talevski.
Summer Uniform
With the Season of Spring upon us, we can look forward to increasingly warm days ahead. Over the next few weeks, students can choose whichever uniform they are most comfortable in. From the beginning of Term 4, we will formally move into the Summer uniform for all students.
We are starting to notice more students, mostly girls, who are not presenting according to our uniform policy. Scrunchies / ribbons should be in keeping with our brown or gold colours, earrings should be small rings or studs only nail polish should not be worn and certainly no make-up. I will be speaking with quite a number of students over the coming days.
Transition to the New Building
Unfortunately this has been pushed back again which creates bit of a dilemma for our planning. Everything from the demountables needs to be removed by Friday, 23 September. Hopefully some of this will be able to be delivered to the new learning spaces but some may need to go to the hall. This preparation will cause considerable disruption to the normal classroom routines for Years 3 - 6 throughout Week 10. Teachers are looking at options and activities where grades are grouped together at times and possibly some activities where buddy classes can team up.
