Principal's Message - Mr Steve Thorne
Newsletter Week 7
Pope Francis’ Prayer to the Holy Family
Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
In you we contemplate
The splender of true love,
To you we turn with trust.
Holy Family of Nazareth,
Grant that our families too
May be places of communion and prayer,
authentic schools of the Gospel
And small domestic churches.
Holy Family of Nazareth,
May families never again experience
Violence, rejection and division,
May all who have been hurt or scandalised
Find ready comfort and healing.
Holy Family of Nazareth,
Make us once more mindful
Of the sacredness and inviolability of the family,
And its beauty in God’s plan. Amen
Vision Statement - “… and the positive wellbeing of all.”
At St Therese, we recognise that we have come through a very difficult time over the past 2½ years. We have noticed the impact Covid and lockdowns have had on our students and are working hard to support students and to help them see that these measures were a necessary part of our lives and we now need to work together to build resilience and relationships. Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) has become a focused part of our teaching each week. The scope and sequence has been built up over the course of the year and will be refined and improved as we continue to lock this in as a critical part of student learning.
For the younger students, creative play is an essential element in their development of who they are and how they fit in socially with those around them. For this reason, we are investing in a new creative playspace where the students can use their imagination as they learn to interact with each other. Play based learning is another concept that we are looking to implement in some form over the coming years for students in K - Yr 2.
Staff wellbeing is also very high on the agenda as we work through the many commitments and challenges thrust upon them. Focusing on ways to streamline many of our processes and building time for collaboration into the school timetable is crucial to support staff.
Book Week Celebration
Last Thursday was a very exciting day of costumes, colour, music and books! It was wonderful to see so many family members turn up to support this fun day. Thanks especially to Rita Crofts and Robyn Hamilton who did most of the preparation for the day and also to Michelle Devine and Mark Bunder who MC’d the events and got everyone involved. There were also many others who supported in many different ways. We very much appreciate the effort that goes into making these days successful and memorable.
Fathers’ Day Stall / Prayer
This Thursday will see our hall transformed into a pop-up shop for Fathers’ Day. A great deal of work has happened behind the scenes to make this happen and I thank the parents involved. Children have been talking about Fathers’ Day all week and the excitement is building.
Father’s Day Prayer Service
Friday 2nd September - Fathers and Father figures are warmly invited to attend our morning assembly where our Year 6 students will be leading our prayer service for our Fathers!
St Therese Feast Day / Grandparents Mass
This special Mass will be celebrated by Fr Duane on Friday, 23 September at 9.30am in the church. Parents / grandparents are then invited to the hall for a morning tea which will be followed by our end of term awards assembly.
Hats & Jackets
Every week we have multiple hats & jackets that are sent to lost property. If they have names, they are returned to the students. Could I ask all parents to regularly check that names are clearly marked on hats and jackets. If your child accidentally comes home with the wrong hat or jacket, please let us know so that teachers can sort it out in the classroom.
P & F Meeting
The next P & F Meeting will be held next week, Tuesday, 6 September in the hall. All parents are very welcome to attend.
Building Update
The countdown is on till we can gain access to our new facilities. Weekly site meetings from now on will keep us closely informed but the plan is to start Term 4 in the new classroom spaces. During the last week of this term, 19-23 September, Years 3 - 6 will be preparing for the move so there will be disruption to our normal classroom routines. This may involve putting grade classes together for some activities or having more casual teachers than usual. This will allow teachers to pack up and clean out their current classrooms.

WONDER RECYCLING REWARDS
Once again this year we will be participating in the Wonder Recycling Rewards for Schools initiative.
The Wonder Recycling Rewards programme is a fun and easy program created to collect and recycle soft plastics and bread tags that might otherwise go to landfill, and earn rewards points to redeem on new sports equipment for our school.
Once collected they can be placed in the special collection box in the Library (Year 3 classrooms)
The campaign closes 9 September.
Thanking you in advance
Ms Elizabeth Pellizzari
