Principal's Message - Mr Steve Thorne
Newsletter Week 4
Mary Mackillop Feast Day
August 8
Ever-generous God,
You inspired St Mary MacKillop to live her life
faithful to the Gospel of Jesus Christ
and constant in bringing hope and encouragement
to those who were disheartened, lonely, or needy.
With confidence in your generous providence
we ask that our faith and hope
be fired afresh by the Holy Spirit so that we too,
like Mary MacKillop, may live with courage,
trust, and openness.
Ever-generous God, hear our prayer.
We ask this through Jesus Christ.
Amen.

St Therese Catholic School Vision Statement
As mentioned previously, we are rolling out our new Vision, Mission and Values this term along with the improved logo. The new Vision Statement is the culmination of over 12 months of reflecting, discussing and researching what we want for our school. Parts of this process have been shared at P & F meetings with the aim to refine lots of ideas down to two or three key things that we see as crucial to the development of our students at St Therese. The discussions with staff have been quite intense at times which was an important part of the process in gaining consensus and full support for our future direction. Our new Vision Statement is:
“Immersed in faith, pursuing excellence
in learning and
positive wellbeing for all.”
This Vision focuses on 3 key elements which I will expand on in future newsletters.
Cyclic Review
Last Wednesday was our Cyclic Review. Four panel members spoke with Fr Duane (interview from before his holiday), members of the leadership team, a group of parents, a group of 10 students and visited most classrooms. It was quite an intense day but one with lots of affirmations regarding where we have come from since our last Cyclic Review (2015) as well as confirming that where are heading is in alignment with what our data is telling us. The final report will handed down in October.
School Improvement / Maintenance
As the excitement builds towards a move back into the Primary building, other areas of the school that are currently being assessed are drainage on the big bank, painting and carpet in the library, flooring in the canteen, blinds in the hall and maintenance of windows in Stage 1 classrooms. It is hoped that any works carried out will have minimal impact on student learning but much needed upkeep of the school.
St Vincent de Paul Appeal
On Sunday, the parish launched the St Vincent de Paul appeal to raise much needed funds to support families within our parish who are struggling financially. If you are in a position to offer support, please place your donation in an envelope marked ‘St Vincent de Paul’ and send in to the school office by Friday.
Book Week 2022 - Dreaming with Eyes Open
Book Week commences Saturday 20th August and this year's theme is Dreaming with Eyes Open.
To celebrate this fun and special event, students are invited to dress up as their favourite book character, or get creative with this year's theme, on Thursday 25th August. Students K-6 will parade in their costumes at 9.30am in the Back playground. Students and staff will get to showcase their costumes and parents are welcome to watch.
Students from Kindergarten to Year 6 will have the pleasure of entering in a Colouring Competition and Dewey Awards Writing Competition. These will be judged by Grades for the Colouring Competition and categories for the Dewy Awards K-2 and Yr 3-6.
After lunch there will be some exciting prizes and awards for the best Costumes and Competition winners announced.
Looking forward to seeing your wonderful creative costumes!
Year 6 Mass with Bishop Brian
Tomorrow, Year 6 will travel to All Saints Church in Shellharbour where they will join with students from 7 other schools in a special Mass. This is an annual event involving Year 6 that stems back over quite a number of years. Mr Thorne and the Year 6 teachers will accompany the students.
Year 4 Excursion to ‘The Rocks’
On Wednesday, the 3rd of August, Year 4 went to The Rocks in Sydney. We learnt a ton of stuff! Year 4 had a lot of fun. We were walking around the city for about 2-3 hours. We went on an amazing walking tour where we got to dress up into convicts and lots of people from the First Fleet. We had a great experience in the city. We went to a lot of famous places that the convicts used for medication and other stuff. We learnt about the First Fleet and when we dressed up, we had a card so that we knew who we were, what we did, what happened in between the past and other things. We went to see the Opera house from a far place and we learnt about Bennelong Point and other famous places. We had a great leader who gave a wonderful tour and we explored a lot of The Rocks. We did a lot of history about the First Fleet and other famous people from the past. Year 4 had so much fun!
