Principal's Message - Mr Steve Thorne
Newsletter Week 3
Strength for this Challenging Time
We pray for your love and compassion to abound
as we walk through this challenging season.
We ask for wisdom for those who bear the load
of making decisions with widespread consequences.
We pray for those who are suffering with sickness
and all who are caring for them.
We ask for protection for the elderly and vulnerable
to not succumb to the risks of the virus.
We pray for misinformation to be curbed
that fear may take no hold in hearts and minds.
As we exercise the good sense that you in your mercy provide,
may we also approach each day in faith and peace,
trusting in the truth of your goodness towards us.
Staff Walk Through - Primary Building
Last Thursday afternoon, staff were invited to have their first look at the refurbished primary building. Having been in regular site inspections since construction started, it was fantastic to see the reaction of staff. After a long 18 months in demountables, or doubling up in the library, staff are very excited to see the space and potential in what is a very different building to the one they left in 2020. At this stage, project completion is only about 5 weeks away!!
Congratulations to all Students
I would just like to acknowledge the settled way students have returned to school this term. With a few minor issues, generally students have accepted that we haven’t been able to use the big band and sometimes the little bank as well. This creates ‘pressure’ on the back playground but I am quite proud of the attitude of students and how they have worked together to accommodate everyone while adhering to the school rules.
Traffic on Powell St
Towards the end of last term, regular reminders, and a police visit, almost put a complete stop to cars lining up on Powell St prior to 2.45pm. This however has changed and I am again seeing traffic at a standstill all the way back to Woodlawn Ave - yesterday this was the case 10mins before the gates were to be opened. This is illegal and subject to quite high infringement notices if police come by. Gates to the presbytery carpark do not open until 2.45pm.
School Uniform - Black Leather Shoes
Reminder that our uniform stipulates black, leather shoes to go with the Winter and Summer uniform. We are seeing a number of students now wearing what is more like a black jogger. I ask that parents make every effort to ensure students are in the correct uniform at all times.
School Uniform - Clearly labelled
Please check items of uniform as we have had quite a few jackets and hats that have been clearly labelled with the student’s name that have gone missing. It is very easy for children to pick up the wrong thing but we would like to have them returned to their rightful owner.
Personalised Planning Meeting Term 3 2022
Personalised Planning Meetings are being scheduled for Term 3 (beginning 12th August) to discuss your child's individual Personalised Plan. This plan is aimed at supporting your child’s specific needs whether they be medical, emotional, social or learning support. Meetings are scheduled for 30 minutes. To facilitate these meetings the interviews will be held via ZOOM or face to face. An Invitation only Letter and link has been sent to those parents who have a PP Meeting.
Looking forward to our meeting.
Book Week 2022 - Dreaming with Eyes Open
Book Week commences Saturday 20th August and this year's theme is Dreaming with Eyes Open.
To celebrate this fun and special event, students are invited to dress up as their favourite book character, or get creative with this year's theme, on Thursday 25th August. Students K-6 will parade in their costumes at 9.30am in the Back playground. Students and staff will get to showcase their costumes and parents are welcome to watch.
Students from Kindergarten to Year 6 will have the pleasure of entering in a Colouring Competition and Dewey Awards Writing Competition. These will be judged by Grades for the Colouring Competition and categories for the Dewy Awards K-2 and Yr 3-6.
After lunch there will be some exciting prizes and awards for the best Costumes and Competition winners announced.
Looking forward to seeing your wonderful creative costumes!

This links to both our Unit on Confirmation and also the Sacrament of Confirmation, which we will be celebrating at the end of this term..

Please sign in at the office and come around to the Year 2 rooms. Thank you in advance for your support.

Next Thursday Year Six students will be joining eight to ten other Catholic schools at All Saints Shellharbour to celebrate Mass with the Bishop. We hope that Year Six enjoy the experience.
WONDER RECYCLING REWARDS
Once again this year we will be participating in the Wonder Recycling Rewards for Schools initiative.
The Wonder Recycling Rewards programme is a fun and easy program created to collect and recycle soft plastics and bread tags that might otherwise go to landfill, and earn rewards points to redeem on new sports equipment for our school.
Once collected they can be placed in the special collection box in the Library (Year 3 classrooms)
The campaign closes 9 September.
Thanking you in advance
Ms Elizabeth Pellizzari
