Principal's Message - Mr Steve Thorne
ANZAC DAY
Let us pray
Lord, our God, boundless provider, source of peace that the world cannot give, kindly hear our constant prayer on this Anzac Day. We pray for those who bore witness to your own fidelity by giving their lives for those they loved. Resurrect them in our true homeland and perfect that peace for which they longed and died. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
All: Amen.
Ode To Remembrance
Their glory shall never die,
the whole wide world
is their Sepulchre.
Their epitaph is written in the
hearts of all mankind
and wherever there is talk
of noble deeds their names will be held
in grateful
remembrance.
They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning
we shall remember them.
We shall remember them.
Lest we forget!
Lest we forget!

Sad News
It is with the greatest sadness that I share with the St Therese Community the sudden death of Mrs Crane's mum "Barbara Wison". Some of you may be aware that Gail's mum and family live in the United States, therefore it is not possible for Gail and her family to travel for the funeral. As you can imagine, this is a very difficult time for all of her family.
Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
Eternal rest grant unto Barbara, O Lord
And may perpetual light shine upon her.
May she rest in peace
Amen
Kinder 2021 Enrolments
We are currently accepting enrolments for Kindergarten 2021. Interviews will be scheduled at some stage during Term 2.
Online Teacher Communication
Its great that students are becoming comfortable with emailing their teachers when they are unsure about an activity. Unfortunately, answering emails will not always happen immediately. Currently, teachers can be receiving in excess of 100 emails per day, which they will respond to as soon as possible, but students and parents do need to be patient.
Changes to Attendance from Week 3
There have been quite a few discussions at varying levels this week regarding plans for students to return in a limited way from Week 3 (11 May). At this stage there are no concrete plans but I hope to have details ready to send out by Friday this week. Thank you once again for the fantastic support we have had from the parents of St Therese – challenging conditions often brings out the best in people!
Drop Off / Pick-Up
One of the key issues around students returning to school is the issue of bringing large numbers of parents together during drop off and pick up times. Until the end of Week 2, this isn’t a huge issue with small numbers of students onsite but we do need to look at how this will work once more students start to return. More will come about this next week but in the meantime could I ask parents to consider:
- using the Kiss and Drop Zone in the mornings and not physically come on site, and
- considering students catching the bus in the afternoon to once again, reduce numbers of parents onsite.
Uniform
As in previous years, we will have a transition period for moving into Winter Uniforms. Over the next few weeks, students wear Sports Uniform on their normal days and can then choose their Summer or Winter Uniform on other days, depending on the weather conditions. I will update parents on any changes to this via the newsletter.
Cyber Safety
Screen Time
I can’t stress enough the importance of children having time away from screens during this time of Remote Learning. Regardless of the amount of work presented by teachers, if you as a parent, feel your child has done enough or needs a break, this is ok.
I have been very happy to hear many accounts of how kids and families are being creative and doing things to promote wellbeing and self-esteem as part of their days activities: painting, starting a herb garden, juggling, kicking a ball through a basketball hoop, dancing challenges, etc.

PARISH
No Parish Masses until further notice
Due to the introduction of remote learning, the Premier’s Reading Challenge has altered some of the rules to give students the best chance of success for the 2020 Challenge.
The changes are as follows;
- Students on all Challenge levels are able to read 10 choice books – an increase from five. To add these additional choice books online, please view the link https://prcsupport.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/24000054175 or this can be accessed directly through the PRC website homepage.
If you are recording your books on a paper copy, just record ‘PC’ for personal choice and they will be added as such when the record is emailed.
- Students on all Challenge levels will be able to include books that they have read collaboratively as a class, in person or online with their teacher or at home with their parents/carers.
For students in year 1, 2, 3 and 4 - From next week, there will be a recorded reading of a Premier’s Reading Challenge book for your child to watch. There will be one added each to Google Classroom under the ‘library’ topic. Once they have watched this recording, the book can be added to their list.
- Students who complete the Challenge in 2020 will be able to count this towards cumulative awards.
- Students who do not participate in the Challenge in 2020 will not be disadvantaged in the receipt of cumulative awards.
Congratulations to Christian Walton (Year 2), Joan Lee (Year 5) and Georgia Weeks (Year 4) for completing the challenge!
Just a reminder, when your child has reached the designated number of books, please scan a copy of the list and email it to Mrs. Macdonald at macdonaldl03@dow.catholic.edu.au and these will then be added to their account.
Happy Reading!
